179 - Narrated by Abu al-Qasim from Abu Bakr Abdul Aziz through permission from Abu Bakr Ahmad ibn Muhammad al-Khallal from Ahmad from al-Husayn al-Raqi from Ibrahim ibn al-Mundhir from Muhammad ibn Fulayh ibn Sulayman from his father from Sa'id ibn al-Harith from Ubayd ibn Hunayn from Qatadah ibn al-Nu'man who said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) say: "When Allah completed the creation, He ascended His Throne, reclined, and placed one of His legs over the other," and said: "This is not befitting for a human."

181 - In another narration, Muhammad ibn Qays said: A man came to Ka'b and asked, "O Ka'b, where is our Lord?" The people said to him: "May Allah break your mouth! Are you asking about this?" Ka'b replied, "Leave him, for if he is a scholar, he will increase in knowledge, and if he is ignorant, he will learn." You asked where our Lord is. He is on the Great Throne, leaning, placing one of His legs over the other.
182 - Abu Muhammad al-Hasan ibn Muhammad narrated to us: Ali ibn Umar al-Tammar narrated to us from his original book: Ja'far ibn Muhammad ibn Ahmad ibn al-Hakam al-Wasiti narrated to us: Ahmad ibn Ali al-Abar Abu al-Abbas narrated to us: Muhammad ibn Ishaq al-Saghani narrated to us: Ibrahim ibn al-Munthir al-Hazami narrated to us: Muhammad ibn Fulayh narrated to us from his father, from Sa'id ibn al-Harith, from Ubayd ibn Haneen who said: While I was sitting in the mosque, Qatadah ibn al-Nu'man came and sat talking, and some people gathered around him until we entered upon Abu Sa'id, whom we found lying down with his right leg raised over his left. We greeted him and sat down. Then Qatadah reached out his hand to Abu Sa'id's leg and pinched it hard. Abu Sa'id said, "Glory be to Allah, my brother, you hurt me!" Qatadah replied, "That is what I intended. The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said: When Allah completed the creation, He reclined and placed one of His legs over the other, then said: 'It is not appropriate for any of My creation to do this.'" Abu Sa'id said, "By Allah, I will never do it again." Abu Muhammad al-Khallal said: "Its chain of narrators are all trustworthy, and with their reliability, they are also of the standard of the two Sahihs, Muslim and Bukhari."

183 - Abu Bakr Ahmad bin Muhammad al-Khallal mentioned this hadith in his *Sunan* and said: Ahmad bin al-Husayn al-Raqqi narrated to us, saying: Ibrahim bin al-Mundhir narrated to us, saying: Muhammad bin Falah bin Sulayman narrated to us, saying: My father narrated to me from Sa‘id bin al-Harith from ‘Ubayd bin Hunayn, who said: While I was sitting in the mosque, Qatadah bin al-Nu‘man came to me and sat down to talk with me, and people gathered around us. Qatadah said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (s.a.w.a.) say: “When He finished His creation, He established Himself upon His Throne, reclined, and placed one of His feet over the other.” And he said: "This is not appropriate for any human.”
Know that this narration conveys several points, among them is the permissibility of describing reclining for Him, not in the sense of rest, but in a way whose meaning is incomprehensible to us, and that He has two feet as He has two hands, and that He places one over the other in a manner we do not comprehend, as interpreting it literally does not contradict His attributes.

568 - Abu Ishaq Ibrahim al-Huzami said—and I read from his book, then he tore it up, apologizing to me, saying, "I swore that once I saw it, I would tear it, so part of the book was torn from the edge"—from Muhammad ibn Fulayh, from Sa’id ibn al-Harith, from Abdullah ibn Munayn, who said: While I was sitting in the mosque, Qatadah ibn al-Nu’man came and sat down, spoke, and then some people gathered around him. He said, "Let’s go, Ibn Munayn, to Abu Sa'id al-Khudri, for I have heard that he is unwell." So we went until we entered upon Abu Sa'id and found him lying down with one leg over the other. We greeted him and sat down, whereupon Qatadah raised his hand and pinched him hard. Abu Sa'id said, "You hurt me!" Qatadah replied, "That’s what I intended—did you not hear the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) say: When Allah finished His creation, He reclined and placed one leg over the other?" He then added, "Such an act is not appropriate to do." Abu Sa'id replied, "Yes."

761 - As for the hadith narrated to us by Abu Abdillah al-Hafidh, who said: Abu al-Abbas Muhammad ibn Ya'qub narrated to us, Muhammad ibn Ishaq al-Saghani narrated to us, Ibrahim ibn al-Mundhir al-Huzami narrated to us, from Muhammad ibn Fulayh from his father from Sa'id ibn al-Harith from Ubayd ibn Hunayn, who said: While I was sitting in the mosque, Qatadah ibn al-Nu’man came and sat down, spoke, and then some people gathered around him. He then said, "Let us go to Abu Sa'id al-Khudri, for I was informed that he is unwell." So we went until we entered upon Abu Sa'id al-Khudri, and we found him lying down with his right leg placed over his left. We greeted him and sat down. Qatadah raised his hand to Abu Sa'id al-Khudri’s leg and pinched it hard. Abu Sa'id exclaimed, "Glory be to Allah, O son of Adam, you hurt me!" Qatadah replied, "That is what I intended. The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said: Indeed, when Allah, Mighty and Majestic be He, finished His creation, He reclined and placed one of His legs over the other, then said: 'It is not fitting for anyone among My creation to do this.'" Abu Sa'id replied, "I will never do it again." This is a rejected (munkar) hadith, and I only recorded it from this particular chain. Fulayh ibn Sulayman, despite being included in the criteria of al-Bukhari and Muslim, did not have this hadith included in their Sahih collections, and some hadith scholars do not rely on his narrations.

13182 - Ubayd ibn Hunayn reported: While I was sitting, Qatadah ibn al-Nu'man came to me and said, "Let us go, O Ibn Jubayr, to Abu Sa'id." So we went until we entered upon Abu Sa'id al-Khudri, whom we found lying down with his right leg over his left. We greeted him and sat down. Qatadah ibn al-Nu’man raised his hand to Abu Sa'id’s leg and pinched it hard. Abu Sa'id said, "Glory be to Allah, son of my mother, you hurt me!" Qatadah replied, "That is what I intended. The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said: When Allah finished His creation, He reclined and placed one of His legs over the other and said, 'It is not fitting for anyone among My creation to do this.'" Abu Sa'id then said, "By Allah, I will never do it again." Narrated by al-Tabarani from three shaykhs: Ja'far ibn Sulayman al-Nawfali, Ahmad ibn Rashdin al-Misri, and Ahmad ibn Dawud al-Makki. Ahmad ibn Rashdin is weak, and the other two I do not know, but the rest of its narrators are those of the Sahih.
