Hafs narrated to us from al-A’mash from Ibrahim from Abdul Rahman ibn Yazid, who said: Abdullah disliked reciting the Quran in less than three days, while others preferred reciting it in less than three. Waki’ narrated to us from Sufyan al-Thawri from Abu Ishaq from Abdul Rahman ibn Yazid, who said: “I saw Abdullah erasing the Mu’awwidhatayn (the last two surahs) from the Quran and saying, ‘Do not mix with it what is not from it.’ They narrate from the Prophet (peace be upon him) that he recited them in the morning prayer, and they are written in the Quran that was compiled during the time of Abu Bakr, then was with Umar, then with Hafsah, then Uthman gathered the people upon it. They are from the Book of Allah, Mighty and Majestic, and I prefer to recite them in my prayer.”

Malik narrated to us from Yahya ibn Sa'id, who heard Sa'id ibn al-Musayyib say that Umar ibn al-Khattab said: "Beware that you may fail concerning the verse of stoning by someone saying, 'We do not find two punishments in the Book of Allah.' Indeed, the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) stoned, and we stoned. By the One in Whose hand is my soul, were it not that people would say, 'Umar has added to the Book of Allah,' I would have written it: 'The elder man and elder woman, if they commit adultery, then stone them outright,' for indeed we have recited it."
