Among those who said: Muhammad ibn al-Husayn narrated to us; he said: Ahmad ibn al-Mufaddal narrated to us; he said: Asbat narrated to us from al-Suddi: “So for whatever you enjoy from them (al-Nisa: 24) to a specified term, then give them their compensation as an obligation, and there is no sin upon you for what you mutually agree upon after the obligation.” This is temporary marriage (mut'ah), whereby a man marries a woman with the condition of a specified term, and two witnesses are present, and he marries her with her guardian’s permission. When the term concludes, he has no claim over her, and she is free from him. She is required to observe a waiting period to ensure her womb is clear, and there is no inheritance between them; neither inherits from the other.

8274 - Al-Muthanna narrated to me; he said: Abu Nu'aym narrated to us; he said: Isa ibn Umar al-Qari al-Asadi narrated to us from Amr ibn Murrah, who heard Sa'id ibn Jubayr recite: “So for whatever you enjoy from them (al-Nisa: 24) to a specified term, then give them their compensation.” Abu Ja'far said: The most accurate interpretation of this is the one that explains it as: “So for whomever among them you marry and consummate the marriage, then give them their compensation,” as the evidence established by Allah’s prohibition of mut'ah with women outside the framework of lawful marriage or rightful ownership through His Messenger (peace be upon him).

8275 - Ibn Waki' narrated to us; he said: My father narrated to us from Abd al-Aziz ibn Umar ibn Abd al-Aziz; he said: al-Rabi' ibn Sabrah al-Juhani narrated to me from his father that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “Enjoy these women,” and enjoyment at that time for us meant marriage. We have demonstrated elsewhere in our writings that mut'ah outside of lawful marriage is forbidden, which suffices without needing repetition here. As for what was narrated from Ubayy ibn Ka'b and Ibn Abbas of their recitation: “So for whatever you enjoy from them (al-Nisa: 24) to a specified term”—this is a reading differing from the codices of the Muslims, and it is not permissible for anyone to add to the Book of Allah, Exalted, anything that has not been reported by an indisputable transmission from one whose contradiction is not allowed.

Ibn Humaid narrated to us; he said: Abu Mu'awiyah narrated to us from Hisham ibn Urwah, from his father, that he asked Aisha about His words: “and those who perform the prayer” (al-Nisa: 162), and His words: “Indeed, those who have believed and those who were Jews and the Sabians” (al-Ma'idah: 69), and His words: “Indeed, these two are magicians” (Ta-Ha: 63). She said: ‘O son of my sister, this is the work of the scribes; they made errors in the Book.’
