Imam Khomeini (may Allah have mercy on him) - *Tahdhib al-Usul* - Volume: (2) - Page: (165), edited by al-Subhani
[The text is lengthy, so only the relevant portion is extracted]
Imam Khomeini said: “Whoever understands the care with which Muslims gathered, preserved, and meticulously documented the Quran, both in recitation and writing, will recognize the falsity of that claim and what has been transmitted on it in reports that were used as evidence... as for those reports, they are either weak and unsuitable as proof, fabricated with clear signs of forgery, or strange to the point of amazement. As for those that are authentic, they pertain to the matter of interpretation and exegesis, and that any alteration that occurred was only in interpretation and not in its text and expression. Detailing this would require the composition of a comprehensive book on the history of the Quran and the stages it has undergone throughout the centuries, summarizing that the Noble Book is exactly as it is between the two covers, without addition or omission... and so forth."

Allamah al-Majlisi - *Bihar al-Anwar* - Volume: (9) - Page: (113)
- Allamah al-Majlisi: “Indeed, We have sent down the Reminder” (al-Hijr: 9) meaning the Quran: “and indeed, We will preserve it” (al-Hijr: 9) from addition, omission, alteration, and distortion. It was also said: We will protect it from the plotting of the polytheists, so they will not be able to invalidate it, nor will it fade or be forgotten. Another interpretation says: And indeed, We will protect Muhammad.
Shaykh Ali al-Kurani al-‘Amili - *Compilation of the Quran* - Page: (40)
- The opinion of Shaykh Ali al-Kurani al-‘Amili: The verdicts of Shia scholars affirming the non-alteration of the Quran—those who represent the Shia in every era are their scholars, as they are the experts in the Shia creed of the Ahl al-Bayt (peace be upon them), distinguishing what is part of it and what is not. ... And when we say Shia scholars, we mean primarily the Maraji‘ al-Taqlid, to whom millions of Shia refer, imitate, and from whom they take the rulings of their religion concerning how to perform their prayers, fasts, pilgrimage, marriage, divorce, inheritance, and transactions. ... These jurists, who are the top scholars of ijtihad in every era, their statements are considered the viewpoint and creed of the Shia; and after them come the other scholars, relatively representing Shia opinion. The final authority in validating their views and thoughts belongs to the Maraji‘ al-Taqlid. Fatwas from the Shia Maraji‘ in our time were issued in response to the accusations of opponents, with unanimous agreement among them that the accusation against the Shia of not believing in the Quran is slander and a grave falsehood and that the Shia believe in the integrity of this Quran and that it is the Quran revealed to the Messenger of Allah (S), without addition or omission....

- The opinion of Shaykh al-Saduq: “Our belief is that the Quran which Allah revealed to His Prophet Muhammad (S) is what is between the two covers and what is in the hands of the people, nothing more than that. The number of its surahs among the people is one hundred and fourteen surahs, and according to us, al-Duha and Alam Nashrah are one surah, and Li-ilaf and Alam Tara Kayfa are one surah (meaning in prayer). Whoever attributes to us that we say there is more than that is a liar.”
Shaykh Ali al-Kurani al-‘Amili - *Compilation of the Quran* - Page: (41)
- The opinion of Shaykh al-Mufid: As for the permissible aspect, it is that a word or two, or a letter or two, and the like could be added in a way that does not reach the level of inimitability and could remain indistinguishable from the words of the Quran for most eloquent speakers. However, whenever this occurs, Allah must point it out and clarify the truth of it for His servants. I am not certain of this, but rather, I tend toward its absence and the Quran’s immunity from it.
Shaykh Ali al-Kurani al-‘Amili - *Compilation of the Quran* - Page: (41)
- The opinion of al-Sharif al-Murtadha: “It is reported that the Quran, during the time of the Messenger of Allah (S), was compiled and arranged as it is now, for the entire Quran was memorized and recited in that era, to the extent that several Companions were specifically assigned to memorize it. It was presented to the Prophet (S) and recited before him, and a group of Companions such as Abdullah ibn Mas’ud, Ubayy ibn Ka’b, and others completed the Quran before the Prophet (S) multiple times. All of this, with the slightest reflection, indicates that it was compiled and arranged, neither scattered nor dispersed.”

Al-Tibyan - Volume: (1) - Page: (42) - Najaf Edition
The opinion of Shaykh al-Tusi: “As for discussing additions or omissions, it is also not suitable, since additions are unanimously considered false. As for omissions, the apparent view of the Muslims is also against it, which aligns with the correct position of our school and was supported by al-Murtada (may Allah have mercy on him), and it is apparent in the narrations. ... Our narrations are consistent in urging recitation of the Quran, adherence to what it contains, and referring differing reports on branches (of the faith) back to it. It has been narrated from the Prophet (S), in a hadith accepted by all, that he said: ‘I am leaving among you the two weighty things; as long as you hold on to them, you will not go astray: the Book of Allah and my progeny, my Ahl al-Bayt. They will not separate until they meet me at the Fountain.’ This indicates that it exists in every era because it is not permissible to command adherence to something we cannot hold on to, just as the Ahl al-Bayt (A) and those whose sayings must be followed are present in every time. Since what we have among us is unanimously accepted as authentic, we should occupy ourselves with interpreting it, explaining its meanings, and leave aside what lies outside of it.”
Al-Tabrisi - Tafsir Majma‘ al-Bayan - Volume: (1) - Pages: (15 and 42)
The opinion of Shaykh Ali al-Tabrisi: “The care and motivation for transmitting and safeguarding it were so strong that they reached a level unmatched in anything we have mentioned, because the Quran is the miracle of prophethood, the source of Islamic sciences, and the basis for rulings in religious law. Muslim scholars have achieved the utmost in preserving and protecting it to the point that they recognized every detail in which there was a difference, whether in grammar, recitation, letters, or verses. So how could it be permissible for it to be altered or diminished, given the sincere care and stringent preservation?”
And on this matter: “The discussion of additions or omissions in the Quran is inappropriate for interpretation. As for additions, they are unanimously deemed false. As for omissions, a group of our companions and some of the general populace’s traditionalists have claimed that the Quran has been altered or diminished, but the correct position of our companions’ belief is the opposite.”
Fayd al-Kashani - Tafsir al-Safi - Volume: (1) - Page: (51)
The opinion of Muhammad Fayd al-Kashani: Allah, Mighty and Majestic, said: “And indeed, it is a mighty Book; falsehood cannot approach it from before it or from behind it” (Fussilat: 41-42) and He said: “Indeed, We have sent down the Reminder, and indeed, We will preserve it” (al-Hijr: 9). So how could alteration and change possibly reach it? Moreover, it is extensively reported from the Prophet (S) and the Imams (A) the hadith about presenting transmitted reports to the Book of Allah to determine their truth by their conformity to it and their falsehood by their contradiction to it. If the Quran we have were altered, what benefit would there be in presenting (reports) to it, especially since the report of alteration itself contradicts and discredits the Book of Allah, which necessitates rejecting it and ruling it as false.
After quoting narrations that might imply alteration in the Book of Allah, he said: “I say: an objection arises to all this, which is that, on this supposition, we would no longer have confidence in any part of the Quran, for every verse could potentially be altered or changed and be different from what Allah revealed. There would then be no argument at all left for us in the Quran, nullifying its benefit, the benefit of being commanded to follow it, and the directive to hold firmly to it, among other things. Also, Allah, Mighty and Majestic, said: “And indeed, it is a mighty Book; falsehood cannot approach it from before it or from behind it” (Fussilat: 41-42) and He said: “Indeed, We have sent down the Reminder, and indeed, We will preserve it” (al-Hijr: 9). So how could alteration and change possibly reach it? Moreover, it is extensively reported from the Prophet (S) and the Imams (A) the hadith about presenting transmitted reports to the Book of Allah to determine their truth by their conformity to it and their falsehood by their contradiction to it. If the Quran we have were altered, what benefit would there be in presenting (reports) to it, especially since the report of alteration itself contradicts and discredits the Book of Allah, which necessitates rejecting it and ruling it as false or interpreting it.”
Shaykh Ja'far Kashif al-Ghita' - Kashf al-Ghita' - Page: (298)
- The opinion of Shaykh Ja'far Kashif al-Ghita': "There is no addition in it from a surah or a verse, whether the Basmala or otherwise, not a word nor a letter. Everything between the two covers that is recited is the speech of Allah, the Exalted, by the necessity of the doctrine, even the religion, and the consensus of Muslims," and the reports of the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) and the pure Imams (peace be upon them), even if some who are not significant disagree on the inclusion of some that was marked in the name of the Qur'an.... There is no doubt that it is preserved from deficiency by the preservation of the Sovereign Lord, as indicated by the explicit Qur'an and the consensus of scholars in all times, and rare opinions are not considered.
Shaykh Ali al-Kourani al-Amili - Tadwin al-Qur'an - Page: (43)
- The opinion of Sayyid Muhsin al-Amin al-Amili: "We say: None of the Imamiyyah, neither in the past nor recently, says that the Qur'an has additions, whether little or much, let alone all of them. Rather, they are all agreed on the absence of additions, and those whose opinions are considered among their scholars agree that nothing has been omitted from it."
Shaykh Ali al-Kourani al-Amili - Tadwin al-Qur'an - Page: (43)
- The opinion of Shaykh Muhammad Husayn Kashif al-Ghita': "And the book that is in the hands of Muslims is the book that Allah revealed for the purpose of miracles and challenge, and distinguishing the lawful from the unlawful, and that there is no deficiency, alteration, or addition in it. On this, they have consensus."
Shaykh Ali al-Kourani al-Amili - Tadwin al-Qur'an - Page: (43)
- The opinion of Sayyid Sharaf al-Din al-Amili: "And the wise Qur'an, which falsehood cannot approach from before it or behind it, is only that which is between the two covers and is what is in the hands of the people; not a letter more, not a letter less, and no substitution of a word for a word or a letter for a letter. Every letter of its letters is transmitted through uninterrupted consensus in every generation with absolute certainty up to the time of revelation and prophethood, and it was compiled in that sacred era, composed as it is now. Gabriel (peace be upon him) would review the Qur'an with the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) once every year, and in the year of his death, he reviewed it with him twice. The companions would present and recite it to the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) until they completed it before him numerous times. This is among the known, necessary matters for the diligent scholars of the Imamiyyah... It has been attributed to the Shia that they believe in the alteration of the Qur'an by omitting words or verses, etc. I say: We seek refuge with Allah from this statement and disassociate before Allah from this ignorance. Whoever attributes this opinion to us is either ignorant of our doctrine or fabricating against us, for the Great Qur'an and the Wise Reminder are transmitted through our paths with all its verses, words, letters, movements, and pauses with absolute certainty from the Imams of guidance from the Ahl al-Bayt (peace be upon them). Only an imbecile doubts this, and all the Imams of the Ahl al-Bayt unanimously trace it back to their grandfather, the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) from Allah, the Exalted. This is also without doubt. The apparent meanings of the wise Qur'an – let alone its explicit texts – are the most compelling proofs of Allah, the Exalted, and the strongest evidence for the people of truth by the primary necessity of the Imamiyyah doctrine, and their authentic reports in this matter are transmitted through uninterrupted chains from the pure lineage. For this reason, they disregard the apparent meanings of authentic reports that contradict the Qur'an and pay no attention to them, adhering to the commands of their Imams (peace be upon them)."
Shaykh Ali al-Kourani al-Amili - Tadwin al-Qur'an - Page: (44)
- The opinion of Sayyid al-Burujirdi al-Tabataba'i: Shaykh Lutfullah al-Safi narrated from his teacher Ayatollah Sayyid Husayn al-Burujirdi that he stated in some of his discussions on the principles, as we wrote from him, the invalidity of the claim of alteration and the sanctity of the Qur'an from any addition occurring in it, and that the necessity is established contrary to it, and that the reports suggesting deficiency are extremely weak in both chain and meaning. He said: Some of these narrations contain what contradicts certainty and necessity and what opposes the interest of prophethood. At the end of his noble words, he said: Then it is astonishing, truly astonishing, that there are people who claim that reports have been preserved orally and in books for over thirteen hundred years and that if any deficiency occurred, it would have become evident, yet they consider the possibility of deficiency affecting the Glorious Qur'an.
Shaykh Ali al-Kourani al-Amili - Tadwin al-Qur'an - Page: (44)
- The opinion of Sayyid Muhsin al-Hakim al-Tabataba'i: "Furthermore, the view of the senior scholars and the belief of the scholars of both groups and the majority of Muslims from the beginning of Islam to today is that the Qur'an, with the arrangement of its verses and chapters and its compilation as it is circulated in the hands, was never claimed to have been altered by the prominent figures, neither before nor after."
Shaykh Ali al-Kourani al-Amili - Tadwin al-Qur'an - Page: (45)
- The opinion of Sayyid Muhammad Husayn al-Tabataba'i: "It has become clear from what we have detailed that the Qur'an which Allah revealed to His Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) and described as a preserved Reminder remains safeguarded as it was revealed, protected by divine preservation from addition, omission, or alteration, as Allah promised His Prophet regarding it." The summary of the argument is that the Qur'an was revealed by Allah to His Prophet and described in numerous verses with specific attributes. If there had been any change affecting these attributes—by addition, omission, or alteration in word or impactful arrangement—then the signs of those attributes would certainly be affected. However, we find that the Qur'an in our possession fully possesses those specific attributes in the most complete and excellent form, indicating that no alteration has stripped it of any of its characteristics. Therefore, what we have is exactly the Qur'an revealed to the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny). Even if we suppose a missing verse, vowel mark, letter, or arrangement, it would have to be in a way that does not affect any of its attributes such as miraculousness, lack of discrepancy, guidance, illumination, being a reminder, and its authority over other divine scriptures, and so on, such as a repeated verse omitted or a difference in a dot or vowel mark.
Shaykh Ali al-Kourani al-Amili - Tadwin al-Qur'an - Page: (45)
- The opinion of Sayyid Muhammad Hadi al-Milani: "Praise be to Allah, and peace be upon His chosen servants. I state with absolute certainty that the Noble Qur'an has not been subject to any alteration, neither by addition nor omission nor by changing some of its words. Although some narrations about alteration exist, they refer to altering the meaning through false interpretations and explanations, not changing the words and expressions. If someone comes across a narration and believes it to be true, they have fallen into confusion and error, as conjecture avails nothing against the truth."
Shaykh Ali al-Kourani al-Amili - Tadwin al-Qur'an - Page: (45)
- The opinion of Sayyid Muhammad Reza al-Gulpaygani: Shaykh Lutfullah al-Safi, may his shadow endure, said: How excellent was the statement of the learned jurist and religious authority Sayyid Muhammad Reza al-Gulpaygani after explicitly stating that what is between the two covers is the Glorious Qur'an, that Book in which there is no doubt, compiled and arranged during the era of the message by the command of the Messenger (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) without alteration, change, addition, or omission, and providing proof for this. The possibility of alteration, addition, or omission in the Qur'an is as implausible as the possibility of changing the transmitted message or the Qibla being other than the Kaaba, which is utterly untenable and not accepted by reason, which independently deems it habitually impossible.
Shaykh Ali al-Kourani al-Amili - Tadwin al-Qur'an - Page: (46)
- The opinion of Sayyid Abu al-Qasim al-Khoei: "The talk of the distortion of the Qur'an is a tale of myths and fantasies that only someone of weak intellect would say, or someone who has not thoroughly examined its aspects, or someone driven by a desire to believe in it, and love blinds and deafens. As for the fair-minded, reflective intellect, it does not doubt its falsehood and absurdity."
Shaykh Ali al-Kourani al-Amili - Tadwin al-Qur'an - Page: (46)
- The opinion of Shaykh Lutfullah al-Safi: "The Qur'an is the miracle of our Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him and his holy progeny), and it is the book that falsehood cannot approach from before it or behind it. The eloquent were unable to produce anything like it, not even a chapter or a verse, and it baffled the minds of the rhetoricians and the great literary figures... Fourteen centuries have passed, and throughout these centuries, none of the eloquent has been able to produce anything like it, and no one will ever be able to do so in future centuries and ages. Every day, the truth of what Allah Almighty stated becomes evident: 'But if you do not—and you will never be able to...' This is the Qur'an, the soul of the Islamic nation, its life, its existence, and its foundation. Without the Qur'an, we would have no entity. This Qur'an is everything between the two covers; there is nothing of human speech in it. Every chapter of its chapters and every verse of its verses is mutawatir (transmitted with certainty), decisive, and beyond doubt, as confirmed by necessity, reason, and definitive mutawatir transmission. This is the Qur'an according to the Shia Imamiyyah, and there is no way to speak of deficiency in it, let alone addition. Only an ignorant person or one afflicted with intellectual deviance would doubt this."**
Al-Allamah al-Hilli - Nihayat al-Usul, Discussion on Tawatur
- The opinion of Al-Allamah al-Hilli: "There is consensus that what has been transmitted to us through uninterrupted consensus (tawatur) from the Qur'an is a decisive argument (upon us)..."
Sayyid al-Amili - In Miftah al-Karama
Part: (2) - Page: (390)
- Sayyid al-Amili: "Custom dictates the transmission by uninterrupted consensus (tawatur) of the details of the Qur'an, including its parts, words, vowel marks, pauses, and its placement in its position, due to the abundant motivations for its transmission from its origin, as it is the foundation for all rulings in the principles of law, and its denier aims to invalidate it because it is miraculous. No attention is paid to those who disagree or doubt in this regard."
Shaykh al-Balaghī - Ālā' al-Raḥmān - Part: (1)
- Shaykh al-Balaghī: "Due to the uninterrupted consensus (tawatur) of the Noble Qur'an among all Muslims, generation after generation, its substance, form, and common recitation have continued uniformly. The reported differences in recitation by some individuals among the seven well-known reciters and others have not affected its substance or form."
Al-Muhaqqiq al-Kalbasi - Al-Bayan fi Tafsir al-Qur'an - Page: (234).

Al-Fadil al-Tuni - Al-Wafiya - Page: (147)
- Al-Fadil al-Tuni: "The well-known view is that it is preserved and secured as it was revealed, unchanged and unaltered. The All-Wise, All-Knowing has safeguarded it. Allah, the Exalted, said: 'Indeed, it is We who sent down the Reminder, and indeed, We will be its guardian' (Al-Hijr: 9)."
Shaykh Jawad al-Balaghī - Ālā' al-Raḥmān fi Tafsir al-Qur'an - Part: (1) - Page: (26)
- Shaykh Ali ibn Abd al-Aali al-Karaki, who passed away in 938 AH, authored an independent treatise on denying deficiency, in which he stated: "The narrations indicating deficiency must either be interpreted or discarded, for if an occurrence contradicts the evidence from the Qur'an, the mutawatir Sunnah, and consensus, and cannot be interpreted or explained in any way, it must be rejected."
