- .... On the night of Friday, the second of Rabi' al-Awwal, the Sultan held the Mawlid al-Nabawi celebration as was customary every year, I said: We will mention the description of how the Mawlid was held in the past so that whoever wishes to renew it may follow it, so on the mentioned Thursday, the Sultan sat in his tent in the royal courtyard, and the judges, emirs, scholars, and the poor were present. Sheikh Siraj al-Din Umar al-Bulqini sat to the right of the Sultan, with Sheikh Burhan al-Din Ibrahim ibn Zaqa'ah below him. On the Sultan’s left sat the revered Sheikh Abu Abdullah al-Maghribi, then the judges sat on their right and left according to their ranks. The emirs then arrived and sat at a distance from the Sultan, and the armies were to the right and left. The reciters read, and when they finished (they were many in number and of various groups), the preachers stood one by one, each being given a pouch containing four hundred silver dirhams and from each emir a piece of special silk. Their number was twenty.
