10896 - Waki' narrated to us, who said: Fitr narrated to us, from Isma'il ibn Rija', from his father, from Abu Sa'id, who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said: "Indeed, there are some of you who will fight for its interpretation just as I fought for its revelation." Then Abu Bakr and Umar stood up and said: "No, rather it will be the one who is mending his sandal," and Ali (peace be upon him) was mending his sandal.

11364 - Al-Husayn ibn Muhammad narrated to us, who said: Fitr narrated to us, from Isma'il ibn Rija' al-Zubaidi, from his father, who said: I heard Abu Sa'id al-Khudri say: We were sitting, waiting for the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny), and he came out to us from one of his wives' houses and we stood up with him, and his sandal broke, so Ali stayed behind to mend it. The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) went on, and we followed him, then he stopped to wait for him, and we waited with him. He said: "Among you is one who will fight on the interpretation of this Quran just as I fought on its revelation." We leaned forward, and among us were Abu Bakr and Umar, and he said, "No, but it is the one mending the sandal." So we went to give him the news, and it was as if he had already heard it.

1071 - Muhammad narrated to us, Qahtan narrated to us, Abu Bakr al-Hanefi narrated to us, Fitr ibn Khalifah narrated to us, from Isma'il ibn Raja' from his father from Abu Sa'id al-Khudri, who said: We were walking with the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) when the strap of his sandal broke. He reached out to Ali, who fixed it, and then he walked on and said: "Among you is one who will fight for the interpretation of the Quran just as I fought for its revelation." Abu Sa'id said: So I went out and gave him the good news of what the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) had said, but he did not rejoice greatly, as if it were something he had already heard.
