8488 - Ishaq ibn Ibrahim and Muhammad ibn Qudamah narrated to us, and the wording is from him, from Jarir, from al-A'mash, from Isma'il ibn Raja', from his father, from Abu Sa'id al-Khudri, who said: We were sitting, waiting for the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny), when he came out to us, and one of the straps of his sandal had broken. He threw it to Ali
and said: "Indeed, among you is one who will fight on the interpretation of the Quran just as I fought on its revelation." Abu Bakr said, "Is it me?" He replied, "No." Umar said, "Is it me?" He replied, "No, but it is the one with the sandal."
