Al-Tahawi - Sharh Mushkil al-Athar - Chapter on Clarifying the Difficulties of What Was Narrated from the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) Regarding His Statement: "Indeed, among you is one who will fight the people for the interpretation of the Qur'an, just as I fought them for its revelation."

4058 - Muhammad ibn Ja'far ibn Muhammad ibn Hafs al-Baghdadi, known as Ibn al-Imam, said: Muhammad ibn Ja'far ibn Muhammad ibn Hafs al-Baghdadi, known as Ibn al-Imam, narrated to us, saying: Yusuf ibn Musa al-Qattan narrated to us, saying: Jarir ibn Abd al-Hamid narrated to us, from al-A'mash, from Isma'il ibn Rija' al-Zubaidi, from his father, from Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: We were sitting, waiting for the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny), when he came out to us from the chamber of Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her), and his sandal came apart. He threw it to Ali (peace be upon him), and then sat down and said: "Indeed, among you is one who will fight for the interpretation of the Qur'an just as I fought for its revelation." Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "I will do it." He said: "No." Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "I will do it." He said: "No, rather it will be the one mending the sandal in the chamber." Rija' al-Zubaidi said: Then a man came to Ali in the courtyard and said: "O Commander of the Faithful, was there anything in the story of the sandal?" He replied: "O Allah, indeed, You bear witness that it is something the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) was pleased to share with me."

Al-Tahawi - Sharh Mushkil al-Athar - Chapter on Clarifying the Ambiguity of What was Narrated from the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) from His Statement: "Indeed, some of you will fight the people on the interpretation of the Qur'an just as I fought them on its revelation."
Volume: (10) - Page Number: (238)
4060 - And Isma'il ibn Ishaq ibn Sahl al-Kufi and Fahd ibn Sulaiman both narrated to us, saying: Abu Na'im al-Fadl ibn Dukin narrated to us, saying: Fitr ibn Khaliifa narrated to us, from Isma'il ibn Rija' who said: I heard my father say: I heard Abu Sa'id al-Khudri say: We were waiting for the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny), and he came out to us from the houses of some of his wives. So we stood with him, walking, when he suddenly broke a strap of his sandal. Ali took it, stayed behind to repair it, and the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) stood waiting for him while we were standing with him. And among the people that day were Abu Bakr and Umar (may Allah be pleased with them). He said, "Indeed, some of you will fight on the interpretation of the Qur'an just as I fought on its revelation." Abu Bakr and Umar leaned forward in anticipation. He then added, "No, rather it is the one repairing the sandal." So I went to him to give him glad tidings of what was said to him, but it seemed he did not raise his head in response, as if it were something he had already heard.

4061 - And Fad said: Muhammad ibn Sa'id ibn al-Asbahani narrated to us, saying: Yahya ibn Abdul-Malik ibn Abi Ghuniyah narrated to us, from his father, from Isma'il ibn Raji', from his father, from Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: We were sitting in the mosque when the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) came out to us, as if there were birds on our heads, and none of us spoke. Then the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said: "Indeed, among you is one who will fight people on the interpretation of the Quran as I fought them on its revelation." Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "I am he, O Messenger of Allah!" He said: "No." Umar said: "I am he, O Messenger of Allah!" He said: "No. However, it is the one who is patching the sandal in the room." Then Ali came out to us, carrying the sandal of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) and making repairs to it. Abu Ja'far said: We inquired about the name of Abu Isma'il ibn Raji' and whether anyone besides his son narrated from him, and we found that Muhammad ibn Isma'il al-Bukhari mentioned that he was Raaji' ibn Abi Rabee'ah. He said that he also narrated from al-Bara' ibn Azib and Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with them). Abu Ja'far said: He was among those from whom Yahya ibn Hani' narrated, in addition to his son.
