- Ali ibn Sa'id narrated to us, saying: Abdul Mummin ibn Ali narrated to us, saying: Abdul Salam ibn Harb narrated to us from al-A'mash and Abu Abdullah al-Shuqri, Salamah ibn Tamam, from Isma'il ibn Rija' from his father
from Abu Sa'id al-Khudri who said: "The strap of the Prophet's (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) sandal broke in the chamber, and he tossed it to Ali to repair it. Then the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said, 'There is among you one who will fight on the interpretation of the Quran as I fought on its revelation.'" Abu Bakr said, "I am up to it, O Messenger of Allah." He said, "No." Umar said, "I am up to it, O Messenger of Allah." He said, "No... but he is the one mending the sandal in the chamber."
