- .... Al-Hakim narrated and authenticated it, as did al-Bayhaqi from Abu Sa'id, who said: We were with the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) when his sandal strap broke. Ali delayed to repair it, and he walked for a little while, then said: "Indeed, among you is one who will fight for the interpretation of the Quran just as I fought for its revelation." Abu Bakr said: "I will," he replied: "No." Umar said: "I will," he replied: "No, but the one repairing the sandal strap."

And Abu Ya'la narrated with a chain of narrators deemed authentic from Abu Sa'id (may Allah be pleased with him) who said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) say: "Indeed, among you is one who will fight for the interpretation of the Quran just as I fought for its revelation." Abu Bakr said: "I am he, O Messenger of Allah." He replied: "No." Umar said: "I am he, O Messenger of Allah." He answered: "No, rather it is the one who is repairing the sandal." He had given Ali (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) his sandal to mend." And Abu Ya'la narrated with a chain of trustworthy narrators, except for Rabi' ibn Sahil, and his narrators will be clarified.

- .... And al-Hakim narrated from Umm Salama (may Allah be pleased with her) who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said, "Ali is with the Quran, and the Quran is with Ali; they will not separate until they return to the Pond."
