Abu Bakr said, "I am he, O Messenger of Allah!" He said, "No." Umar said, "I am he, O Messenger of Allah!" He said, "No, but it will be the one mending the sandal." So we went on, and we found Ali repairing the sandal of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) in the chamber of Aisha, and we gave him the good news.

- Abu Bakr ibn Malik narrated to us, saying: Muhammad ibn Yunus al-Sami narrated to us, saying: Abu Bakr al-Hanafi narrated to us, saying: Fitr ibn Khalaifah narrated to us, from Isma'il ibn Rija' from his father from Abu Sa'id al-Khudri, who said: "We were walking with the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) when the strap of his sandal broke. He took it, and Ali fixed it, then he walked on and said: 'O people, among you is one who will fight for the interpretation of the Quran just as I fought for its revelation.'"
