- Abu Bakr ibn Malik narrated to us, saying: Muhammad ibn Yunus al-Sami narrated to us, saying: Abu Bakr al-Hanafi narrated to us, saying: Fitr ibn Khalaifah narrated to us, from Isma'il ibn Rija' from his father
from Abu Sa'id al-Khudri, who said: "We were walking with the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) when the strap of his sandal broke. He took it, and Ali fixed it, then he walked on and said: 'O people, among you is one who will fight for the interpretation of the Quran just as I fought for its revelation.'" Abu Sa'id said: So I went out and gave him the glad tidings of what the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) had said, but he did not show any eagerness or joy, as if he had already heard it.
