214 - And Abu Mansur Shahdhar ibn Shirwayh ibn Shahdhar al-Daylami, the master of the scholars, informed me (in what he wrote to me from Hamadan): Abu al-Fath Abdus ibn Abd Allah ibn Abdus al-Hamdani wrote to us, narrating from the noble Abu Talib al-Mufaddal ibn Muhammad ibn Tahir al-Ja'fari in Isfahan, from the scholar Abu Bakr Ahmad ibn Musa ibn Marduyah ibn Furk al-Isfahani, who said: Muhammad ibn al-Husayn al-Daqqaq al-Baghdadi narrated to us, and Muhammad ibn Uthman ibn Abi Shaybah narrated to us, and Ibrahim ibn al-Hasan al-Taghlibi narrated to us, and Yahya ibn Ya'la narrated to us, and Umar ibn Yazid narrated to us, and Abdullah ibn Hanthalah narrated to me, from Shahr ibn Hawshab, who said: I was with Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her), and a man greeted her. It was said, "Who are you?" He replied, "I am Abu Thabit, the freedman of Abu Dharr." She said, "Welcome, Abu Thabit. Enter." So he entered, and she welcomed him. She then said, "Where did your heart soar when hearts were swirling?" He said, "With Ali ibn Abi Talib (peace be upon him)." She replied, "You are right, and by the One in whose hand is the soul of Umm Salamah, I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) say: 'Ali is with the Quran, and the Quran is with Ali.' They will not separate until they return to me at the cistern. And I had sent my son Umar and my nephew Abdullah ibn Umayyah and instructed them that if they fought, they should fight with Ali against whoever fought him. If it were not that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) commanded us to remain in our tents or in our homes, I would have gone out to stand in the ranks of Ali."

243 - And in this chain, Ahmad ibn al-Husayn, this one, informed me: Abu Abdullah al-Hafiz narrated to us: Abu Ja'far Muhammad ibn Ali al-Shaybani in Kufa from the original of his book, who said: Ahmad ibn Hazm narrated to us from Abu Urwah, who said: Abu Ghassan narrated to us, and Abdul Salam ibn Harb narrated to us, and al-A'mash narrated to us from Isma'il ibn Rija' from his father, from Abu Sa'id, who said: We were with the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny), and his sandal was torn, so he left Ali (peace be upon him) to mend it. He walked a little and then said: "Indeed, some of you will fight for the interpretation of the Quran as I fought for its revelation." The people, including Abu Bakr and Umar, listened eagerly. Abu Bakr said: "I am he." He replied: "No." Umar said: "I am he." He replied: "No, but the one repairing the sandal," pointing to Ali (peace be upon him). So we went to him and gave him the good news, but he did not raise his head, as if he had heard it from the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny).
