32082 - Ibn Abi Ghuniyyah narrated to us, from his father, from Isma'il ibn Rija' from his father, from Abu Sa'id al-Khudri, who said: We were sitting in the mosque when the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) emerged and sat with us, as if there were birds on our heads, and none of us spoke. He said: "Indeed, there is a man among you who will fight the people on the interpretation of the Quran just as you were fought on its revelation." Abu Bakr stood up and said: "I am he, O Messenger of Allah." He said: "No." Then Umar stood up and said: "I am he, O Messenger of Allah." He said: "No, but it will be the one mending sandals in the chamber." Then Ali came out to us, carrying the sandal of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) and making repairs to it.

5102 - Abd al-Rahman ibn Bashir or Bushr al-Ansari was mentioned by al-Bawardi and Ibn Mundeh, who both narrated from the way of Saif ibn Muhammad, from al-Sari ibn Yahya, from al-Sha'bi from Abd al-Rahman ibn Bashir, who said: We were sitting with the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) when he said, "A man will soon strike you on the interpretation of the Quran just as I struck you on its revelation." Abu Bakr said, "I am he, O Messenger of Allah!" He said, "No." Then Umar said, "I am he, O Messenger of Allah!" He said, "No, but it will be the one repairing sandals." So we went on, and behold, Ali was mending the sandals of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) in the room of Aisha, and we gave him the good news. Ibn Mundeh said: "I think he is Abd al-Rahman ibn Abi Sarrah, and I do not think that is far off, even though the narration of the latter came through the path of al-Sari from al-Sha'bi from him."

1591 - Abu Ubayd Ali ibn al-Husayn ibn Harb al-Qadi narrated to us, saying: Abu al-Ash'ath Ahmad ibn al-Muqdam narrated to us, saying: Abu Bakr al-Hanafi narrated to us, saying: Fitr ibn Khulayfah narrated to us, from Isma'il ibn Rijā' from his father, from Abu Sa'id al-Khudri, who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) came out from one of his wives' rooms, and the shoelace of his sandal broke. Ali (peace be upon him and her holy progeny) took it and stayed behind to fix it. The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) stood waiting, and we stood with him. He said: "Certainly, among you is one who will fight for the interpretation of the Quran just as I fought for its revelation." The people, including Abu Bakr and Umar (may Allah be pleased with them), were eager for this, and the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said: "No, but he is the one with the sandal." So, we went to him to give him the good news, but he did not raise his head, as if it were something he had already heard.
