1790 - Ya'qub narrated to us, who said: My father narrated to us, from Ibn Ishaq, who said: Yahya ibn Abi al-Ash'ath narrated to me, from Isma'il ibn Iyas ibn Afif al-Kindi, from his father, from his grandfather, who said: I was a man engaged in trade and I came to perform Hajj. I went to al-Abbas ibn Abd al-Muttalib to buy some merchandise from him, for he was a man of trade. By Allah, I was with him in Mina when a man emerged from a nearby tent and looked at the sun. When he saw it had tilted, he stood up to pray, meaning he began to pray. Then a woman came out from that tent where the man had exited and stood behind him to pray. Then a boy, just approaching maturity, came out from that tent and stood with him to pray. I said to al-Abbas, "Who is this, O Abbas?" He replied, "This is Muhammad ibn Abdullah ibn Abd al-Muttalib, my nephew." I said, "Who is this woman?" He said, "This is his wife, Khadijah bint Khuwailid." I said, "Who is this lad?" He said, "This is Ali ibn Abi Talib, his cousin." I then asked, "What is it that they are doing?" He replied, "They are praying, and he claims to be a prophet. None follows him in his mission except his wife and this boy, his cousin," and he believes that treasures of Kisra and Qaysar will be opened to him." Al-Afif, who was a cousin of al-Ash'ath ibn Qays, used to say, and he embraced Islam after that, and his Islam was good: "If only Allah had granted me Islam on that day, so I could have been the third with Ali ibn Abi Talib (peace be upon him)."
