181 - Muhammad ibn al-Sari al-Naqid and Musa ibn Harun narrated to us, saying: Abu Khaythamah Zuhayr ibn Harb narrated to us, saying: Ya'qub ibn Ibrahim ibn Sa'd narrated to me, from my father, from Ibn Ishaq, who said: Yahya ibn Abi al-Ash'ath narrated to me, from Isma'il ibn Iyas ibn Afif al-Kindi, from his father, from his grandfather, Afif al-Kindi, who said: "I was a merchant, and by Allah, I was with him when a man came out nearby. He looked at the sun, and when he saw it had tilted, he stood up to pray. Then a woman came out from that tent from which the man had emerged and stood behind him to pray. After that, a boy emerged from that tent, just approaching puberty, and began to pray. I said to al-Abbas, 'Who is this?' He replied, 'This is Muhammad ibn Abdullah ibn Abd al-Muttalib, my nephew.' I asked, 'And who is this woman?' He said, 'His wife, Khadijah bint Khuwailid.'
I continued, 'Who is this boy?' He replied, 'Ali ibn Abi Talib, his cousin.' I asked, 'And what is this they are doing?' He said, 'They are praying, and he claims to be a prophet. Only his wife and this boy, his cousin, have followed him in his cause.' He believes that the treasures of Kisra and Qaysar will be opened to him." Afif embraced Islam after that and was the cousin of al-Ash'ath ibn Qays. He regretted what he had missed of Islam on that day.
