- He said: Yahya ibn Hammad al-Basri narrated to us, saying: Abu 'Awaneq narrated to us, from Abu Balj, from Amr ibn Maymun from Ibn Abbas, who said: "The first to embrace Islam among people after Khadijah was Ali." Muhammad ibn Umar and our companions are unanimous that the first of the people of the qibla to respond to the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) was Khadijah bint Khuwailid. Then, there was disagreement among us regarding three men as to which of them embraced Islam first: Abu Bakr, Ali, and Zayd ibn Harithah. We do not find any accounts of Ali's Islam being authentic except that he was eleven years old at the time.
