4734 - Abu Abdullah Muhammad ibn Abdullah al-Saffar narrated to us, stating: Al-Hasan ibn Ali ibn Bahr ibn Bari narrated to us, from my father, and Ahmad ibn Jaafar al-Qit'i narrated to us, saying: Abdullah ibn Ahmad ibn Hanbal narrated to me, from my father, from Ali ibn Bahr ibn Bari, from Muhammad ibn Ishaq, who said: Yazid ibn Muawiya ibn Zayd ibn al-Nawar narrated to me that he said: I and Ali were companions in the expedition of Dhul-Ishirah. When the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) descended there and stayed, we saw some people from Banu Mudlij working at a spring they had among their date palms. Ali said to me: O Abu al-Yaqdzan, would you like to go to these people and see how they work? So we went to them and watched their work for a while, then sleep overcame us. Ali and I went and lay down in the shadows of the date palms on a patch of dust and fell asleep. By Allah, nothing awoke us except the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) shaking us with his foot, and we were covered in dust from that patch. The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said: O Abu Turab, when he saw us covered in dust...
Then the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said, "Shall I not tell you both about the most miserable men?" We said, "Of course, O Messenger of Allah." He replied, "The she-ass of Thamud who killed the she-camel, and the one who will harm you, O Ali, at this place," indicating his horn, "until this," meaning your beard, "becomes wet with blood." This is a sound hadith according to the criteria of Muslim, but they did not narrate it with this additional detail; they only both agreed on the narration of Abu Hazim from Sahl ibn Sa'd: "Get up, Abu Turab."
