Al-Hakim al-Nishapuri - Al-Mustadrak ala al-Sahihain
Book of the Knowledge of the Companions (ra) - When the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) was angry, no one dared to speak to him except Ali
Volume: (3) - Page Number: (130)
4706 - Abu Ali al-Hafiz narrated to me, saying: Abu Abd Allah Muhammad ibn Ahmad ibn Ayyub al-Saffar and Humaid ibn Yunus ibn Yaqub al-Zayyat both said: Muhammad ibn Ahmad ibn Iyad ibn Abi Taybah narrated to us, from his father, who said: Yahya ibn Hasan narrated to us, from Sulayman ibn Bilal, from Yahya ibn Sa'id from Anas (ra) who said:I used to serve the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny), and a roasted chick was presented to the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny). He said: "O Allah, bring me Your most beloved creation to You, to eat with me from this bird." So I said, "O Allah, make him a man from the Christians." Then Ali (ra) came. I said: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) is in need of something. Then he came again, and I said: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) is in need of something. Then he came again, and the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said: "Open (the door)." He entered, and the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said: "What delayed you, Ali?" He replied: "These are the last three times Anas has sent me away, claiming you are in need." The Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said: "What made you do what you did?" I said: "O Messenger of Allah, I heard your prayer and wanted it to be a man from my people." The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said: "A man may love his people." This is a sound hadith according to the criteria of the two Shaykhs, and they did not record it. Many of his companions narrated it from Anas, adding to more than thirty individuals. Subsequently, the narration was confirmed from Ali, Abu Sa'id al-Khudri, and Safinah. In the narration of Thabit al-Bunani from Anas, there are additional words.

4707 - And it was narrated from Anas by a group of his companions, more than thirty individuals, and then the narration was confirmed from Ali, Abu Sa'id al-Khudri, and Safina. In the narration of Thabit al-Bunani from Anas, there are additional words as the trustworthy and reliable one, Abu al-Qasim al-Hasan ibn Muhammad ibn al-Husayn ibn Isma'il ibn Muhammad ibn al-Fadl ibn Aliyah ibn Khalid al-Sukuni, informed us in Kufa from the original of his book, who said: Ubayd ibn Kathir al-Amiri narrated to us, saying: Abd al-Rahman ibn Dubays narrated to us. And Abu al-Qasim also said: Muhammad ibn Abdullah ibn Sulay narrated to us that Anas ibn Malik (ra) was unwell, so Muhammad ibn al-Hajjaj came to visit him with some companions. The conversation continued until they mentioned Ali (ra), and Muhammad ibn al-Hajjaj spoke ill of him. Anas said: "Who is this? Let me sit up," and they helped him sit up. He then said: "O son of al-Hajjaj, do I not see you speaking ill of Ali ibn Abi Talib? By the one who sent Muhammad (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) with the truth, I swear I was the servant of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) in front of him, and every day a boy from the children of the Ansar would serve in front of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny). That day was my day. Then, Um Ayman, the freedwoman of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny), came with a bird and placed it between the hands of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny). The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said, 'O Um Ayman, what is this bird?' She said, 'I caught this bird and made it for you.' The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) then said, 'O Allah, bring me Your most beloved creation to You and to me to eat with me from this bird,' and he knocked on the door. The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said, 'O Anas, look who it is at the door.' I said, 'O Allah, make it a man from the Ansar.' So I went, and there was Ali at the door. I said: 'The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) is busy,' and I came back until I stood from my place. But I did not wait long before there was a knock at the door. He said, 'O Anas, look who it is at the door.' I said, 'O Allah, make it a man from the Ansar.' So I went, and there was Ali at the door. I said, 'The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) is busy,' and I came back until I stood in my place. Again, I did not wait long before there was a knock at the door. The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said, 'O Anas, go and let him in, for you are not the first man to love your people. He is not from the Ansar.' So I went and let him in. He said, 'O Anas, bring the bird closer to him.' So I placed it between the hands of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny), and they both ate from it.' Muhammad ibn al-Hajjaj said: 'O Anas, was this in your presence?' He replied: 'Yes.' He said: 'I give you my word by Allah that I will not speak ill of Ali after this position, nor will I allow anyone to speak ill of him without distorting their face.'"
