- .... Al-Sha'bī said: Yes, while I was standing in the al-Hijrīn, a man said to me: "Would you like to meet a man who loves the Commander of the Faithful and is with us?" I replied: "Yes," so he brought me to Rashīd, who said: "I set out for pilgrimage, and when I had completed my rituals, I thought, 'If only I could make a recent visit to the Commander of the Faithful.'" So I passed through Medina and came to the door of Ali (peace be upon him). I said to someone, "Ask permission for me to see the Master of Muslims." He replied, "He is asleep, thinking that I mean al-Hasan." I said, "I do not mean al-Hasan; I mean nothing other than the Commander of the Faithful, the Imam of the Righteous, and the Leader of those with shining foreheads." He said, "Is he not dead?" and he wept. I replied, "By Allah, he is now breathing with a living breath and will stir from the heavy cloak." He said, "Since you know the secret of the family of Muhammad, then enter and greet him." So I entered upon the Commander of the Faithful and greeted him, and he informed me of things that would happen. Al-Sha'bī said: Then I said to Rashīd, "If you are lying, may Allah curse you!" and I left, and the news of this reached Ziyād, who cut out his tongue and crucified him.

- .... Al-Sha'bi said: Yes, while I was standing in the Hijr, a man said to me: "Would you like to meet a man who loves the Commander of the Faithful?" I replied: "Yes," so he brought me to al-Rashid. When he saw me, he gestured to me with his hand and began to speak. He said: "I set out for Hajj, and when I had completed my rituals, I thought, 'If only I could renew my acquaintance with the Commander of the Faithful,' so I passed through Medina and went to the door of Ali. I said to a man: 'Ask permission for me to see the Master of Muslims.' He replied: 'He is asleep, and he thinks I mean al-Hasan.' I said: 'I do not mean al-Hasan; I mean the Commander of the Faithful, the Imam of the Righteous, and the Leader of those with elevated foreheads.' He said: 'Is he not dead?' I replied: 'By Allah, he is now breathing with a living breath and sweating under the heavy covering.' He said: 'Well, if you know the secret of the family of Muhammad, then enter, greet him, and come out.' So I entered upon the Commander of the Faithful, and he informed me of things that would happen. I said to al-Rashid: "If you are lying, then may Allah curse you!" and I stood up, and the news reached Ziyad, who sent for al-Rashid and cut out his tongue and crucified him.

9591 - Yahya ibn al-Alaa al-Bajjali al-Razi, Abu Amr: .... Yahya ibn al-Alaa narrated to us from Yahya ibn Sa'id from Ibn al-Musayyib, who said: Abu Ayyub took something from the Prophet's (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) beard and said: "May no harm come to you, O Abu Ayyub!" Ubadah ibn Ziyad narrated to us from Yahya ibn al-Alaa al-Razi, from Ja'far ibn Muhammad from his father, from Jabir - raised to the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) - who said: "Allah made the descendants of every Prophet from his loins, and He made my descendants from the loins of Ali." Amr ibn al-Husayn narrated to us from Yahya ibn al-Alaa, who said: Hilaal ibn Abi Humayd narrated to us from Abdullah ibn As'ad ibn Zurara from his father - raised to the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) - that it was revealed to me about Ali three things: that he is the leader of the Muslims, the Imam of the righteous, and the commander of those with white foreheads and shining limbs.
