16 - And in al-Manaqib: with a chain of narration (isnad) from Ja'far al-Sādiq, from his father, from his grandfather Ali ibn al-Husayn (peace be upon them), who said: It reached Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) that one of her freedmen was belittling Ali (peace be upon him). So she sent for him, and he came to her. She said to him: O my son, shall I tell you a حديث (narrative) I heard from the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny)? He (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said (to her): O Umm Salamah, listen and bear witness, this is Ali, my brother in this world and the Hereafter, the bearer of my banner in this world, and the bearer of the Banner of Praise tomorrow on the Day of Resurrection. This is Ali, my successor (wasiyyi) and the one who will judge my enemies (qādi 'idāti), the protector against the hypocrites at my pond (dhā'id). O Umm Salamah: Ali is the master of the Muslims, the Imam of the God-fearing (muttaqīn), and the leader of those with shining foreheads (ghurr al-muhajjilīn), and the fighter against the renegades (nākiṭīn), the oppressors (qāsiṭīn), and the transgressors (mārqīn).

1 - Al-Hamuwaini narrated in Faraa'id al-Samatayn and Muwaffaq ibn Ahmad al-Khwarizmi from Imam al-Hasan al-Askari, from his father, from his forefathers from Amir al-Mu'minin Ali (peace be upon him) who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said to me: "O Abu al-Hasan, speak to the sun, for it will speak to you." I said: "Peace be upon you, O obedient servant of Allah, the Almighty and Majestic." The sun replied: "And peace be upon you, O Commander of the Faithful and Imam of the God-fearing, and Leader of those with shining foreheads," O Ali: You and your Shia are in Paradise. O Ali, you are the first from whom the earth will split open, Muhammad, then you, and you are the first to be revived, Muhammad, then you, and you are the first to be clothed, Muhammad, then you." He then fell to the ground, prostrating to Allah in gratitude to Him.
