- Muhammad ibn al-Muẓaffar narrated to us, dictating, saying: Abu Ali Muhammad ibn al-Dahhak ibn Amr narrated to us, saying: Sahl ibn Abd Allah al-Zahid narrated to us, from Sulayman ibn Abd al-Rahman, from Muhammad ibn Abd al-Rahman al-Qushayri, from Abd al-Malik ibn Abi Sulayman, from Atiyya, from Abu Sa'id al-Khudri, from the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny), who said: "I was given five things regarding Ali. One of them is that he willCover my nakedness, the second is that he will pay off my debts, the third is that he will be leaning in my favor in the length of the Day of Judgment, the fourth is that he will be my support at my Pond, and the fifth is that I do not fear for him returning to disbelief after faith or to adultery after chastity." Thus, Ibn al-Muẓaffar narrated to us and said: "Sahl al-Zahid is al-Tustari." I said to him: "There is in our land Sahl ibn Abd Allah Abu Tahir. Is that him?" He insisted that it was only al-Tustari.

Then he said, "Which of you will pay off my debt?" He continued: So I remained silent, and the others were silent. Then the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) repeated the question, and I said, "I will, O Messenger of Allah." He said, "You, Ali, you, Ali." This hadith is not known to be narrated with this chain connectedly from Ibn Abbas from Ali except from the narration of Salamah from Ibn Ishaq, and we do not know of Abdullah ibn al-Harith narrating from Ibn Abbas from Ali except for the instances mentioned.

Ibn al-Athir - al-Kamil fi al-Tarikh - Then the year 35 entered - Mention of those who marched to besiege Uthman
Volume: (2) - Page Number: (526)
[The text is lengthy, so only the relevant excerpt is provided here]
- .... And the reason for this was that Abdullah ibn Saba' was a Jew from the people of Sanaa, a black man, who converted to Islam during the days of Uthman. He then moved around the Hejaz, then to Basra, then to Kufa, and finally to Shaam, seeking to mislead the people, but he could not succeed in that. So the people of Shaam expelled him, and he went to Egypt, where he stayed among them and said: "How strange it is that one can believe that Isa will return and yet deny that Muhammad will return." He proposed to them the concept of return (raj'ah), and it was accepted by them. Then he said afterwards that every prophet had a designated successor, and Ali was the successor of Muhammad. So who is more unjust than one who rejects the will of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) and arrogantly comes before his successor? He further claimed that Uthman took it unjustly. So rise up in this matter, begin by attacking your leaders, and openly promote enjoining good and forbidding wrong to win the people over....
