- .... Abd al-Warith narrated to us, saying: Qasim narrated to us, who said: Ahmad ibn Zuhayr narrated to us, citing his father, who said: Namir narrated to us, from Hajjaj, from al-Hakam, from Muqsim
from Ibn Abbas, who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said to Ali: "You are my brother and companion."- .... And Abd al-Warith narrated to us, saying: Qasim narrated to us, Ahmad ibn Zuhayr narrated to us, saying: Amr ibn Hammad al-Qannad narrated to us, saying: Ishaq ibn Ibrahim al-Azdii narrated to us, from Ma'ruf ibn Kharbuz, from Ziyad ibn al-Mundhir, from Sa'id ibn Muhammad al-Azdii, from Abi al-Tufayl, who said: When Umar was on his deathbed, he made it a council among Ali, Uthman, Talha, al-Zubayr, Abd al-Rahman ibn Awf, and Sa'd.
Ali then said to them: "I implore you by Allah, is there anyone among you whom the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) befriended, linking him as brothers, when he linked the Muslims, other than me?" They said: "O Allah, no."- .... Abu Umar said: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) befriended the Muhajirin in Mecca, and then befriended the Muhajirin and the Ansar in Medina.
In each of these instances, he said to Ali: "You are my brother in this world and the Hereafter," and he made a bond between him and himself. Therefore, this statement and similar ones from Ali (peace be upon him) were significant. He was with him on Mount Hira when it trembled, and he said to him: "Stay steadfast, Hira, for nothing is upon you except a prophet, or a truthful one, or a martyr."
