619 - Abd al-Salam ibn Salih ibn Sulayman ibn Ayyub ibn Maysarah al-Qurashi, their mawla, Abu al-Salt al-Harawi, who settled in Nishapur: .... narrated from him. And al-Qasim ibn Abd al-Rahman al-Anbari said, "I asked Yahya ibn Ma'in about a hadith that Abu al-Salt narrated to us from Abu Mu'awiya, from al-A'mash, from Mujahid from Ibn Abbas, raised (marfu) to the Prophet: 'I am the city of knowledge,' the hadith." He replied, "It is authentic." And al-Khatib said he meant it is authentic from Abu Mu'awiya, as others have narrated it from him.

Hadith No: 2
Ibn Hajar al-Asqalani - Lisan al-Mizan - Letter jeem - Those Named Ja'far
Volume: (2) - Page Number: (122/123)
[The text is lengthy, so only the relevant excerpt is provided here]
513 - Ja'far ibn Muhammad al-Faqih: There is obscurity about him. Ibn Mutayn said: Ja'far narrated to us, saying: Abu Muawiya narrated to us from al-A'mash from Mujahid from Ibn Abbas (RA) who said: "I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) say, 'I am the city of knowledge, and Ali is its gate.'" This is deemed fabricated. This hadith has many routes in al-Hakim al-Nisaburi, and the least that can be said about them is that there is an original basis for the hadith, so it should not be categorically labeled as fabricated.
