- Abu al-Faraj Ghaith ibn Ali al-Khatib narrated to us that Abu al-Faraj al-Isfarayini told him in his own words more than once, saying: Ibn al-Muthanna was delivering a sermon in Damascus when a man stood up and said: "O Sheikh, what do you say about the Prophet's (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) statement, 'I am the city of knowledge, and Ali is its gate'?"

- Abu al-Mudhafar Abdul Munim ibn Abdul Karim and Abu al-Qasim Zaher ibn Tahir both said: Abu Sa'd Muhammad ibn Abdul Rahman narrated to us, saying: Abu Sa'id Muhammad ibn Bashir ibn al-Abbas narrated to us, saying: Abu Lubayd Muhammad ibn Idris narrated to us, saying: Suwayd ibn Sa'id narrated to us, saying: Sharik narrated to us, from Salamah ibn Kuhayl, from al-Sanabighi from Ali, who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said: "I am the city of knowledge, and Ali is its gate. Whoever wishes to seek knowledge, let him come to the gate of the city."
- Abu al-Hasan Ali ibn Ahmad narrated to us, and Abu Mansur ibn Zuraq narrated to us, saying: Abu Bakr al-Khatib narrated to me, saying: Ahmad ibn Muhammad al-Atiqi narrated to me, from Abdullah ibn Muhammad ibn Abdullah al-Shahid, from Abu Bakr Ahmad ibn Fadhwayh ibn Urwah al-Tahhan, from Abu Abdullah Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn Yazid ibn Sulaym, who said: Rujaj ibn Salamah narrated to me, from Abu Mu'awiyah al-Darir, from al-A'mash, from Mujahid from Ibn Abbas, who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said: "I am the city of knowledge, and Ali is its gate. - Abu al-Hasan Ali ibn Ahmad ibn Qabis narrated to us, saying: Abu Mansur Abd al-Rahman ibn Muhammad ibn Zuraq narrated to us, saying: Abu Bakr Ahmad ibn Ali ibn Thabit al-Khatib narrated to us, from Muhammad ibn Umar ibn al-Qasim al-Narsi, from al-Hasan ibn Maymun al-Harbiy, from Abd al-Salam ibn Salih, from Muhammad ibn Abdullah al-Shafi'i, who said: Ishaq ibn ... al-Harawi narrated to us, from Abu Mu'awiya, from al-A'mash, from Mujahid from Ibn Abbas, who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said, "I am the city of knowledge, and Ali is its gate."
- And Abu al-Hasan narrated to us, saying: Abu Mansur narrated to us, saying: Abu Bakr al-Khatib narrated to us, from Muhammad ibn Ahmad ibn Rizq, from Abu Bakr Mukram ibn Ahmad ibn Mukram al-Qadi, from al-Qasim ibn Abd al-Rahman al-Anbari, from Abu al-Salt al-Harawi, from Abu Mu'awiya, from al-A'mash, from Mujahid from Ibn Abbas, who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said, "I am the city of knowledge, and Ali is its gate. Whoever seeks knowledge should come to his door." Al-Qasim said: I asked Yahya ibn Ma'in about this hadith, and he said, "It is authentic." Al-Khatib said: He meant that it is authentic based on the narration of Abu Mu'awiya and is not false, as it has been narrated by others from him.
