from Ibn Abbas, who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said, "I am the city of knowledge, and Ali is its gate."- And Abu al-Hasan narrated to us, saying: Abu Mansur narrated to us, saying: Abu Bakr al-Khatib narrated to us, from Muhammad ibn Ahmad ibn Rizq, from Abu Bakr Mukram ibn Ahmad ibn Mukram al-Qadi, from al-Qasim ibn Abd al-Rahman al-Anbari, from Abu al-Salt al-Harawi, from Abu Mu'awiya, from al-A'mash, from Mujahid
from Ibn Abbas, who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said, "I am the city of knowledge, and Ali is its gate. Whoever seeks knowledge should come to his door." Al-Qasim said: I asked Yahya ibn Ma'in about this hadith, and he said, "It is authentic." Al-Khatib said: He meant that it is authentic based on the narration of Abu Mu'awiya and is not false, as it has been narrated by others from him.
