6 - Al-Hamuwini in Fara'id al-Samatayn: With his chain of narration from Sa'id ibn Jubayr from Ibn Abbas (ra) who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said, "O Ali, I am the city of knowledge, and you are its gate, and the city will not be reached except through the gate. Those who claim to love me while harboring animosity toward you are lying, for you are from me, and I am from you."
- They said: Who can deny this to us when the Messenger of Allah says, "I am the city of knowledge, and Ali is its gate"?
2 - The Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said, "I am the city of knowledge, and Ali is its gate." Allah, the Exalted, said: "Enter houses through their doors," so whoever seeks knowledge should go to it through the gate.

18 - And in another narration from Ibn Adi: "Ali is the gate of my knowledge," and people have differed regarding this hadith, with some saying it is fabricated, among them Ibn al-Jawzi and al-Nawawi.... Al-Hakim went to extremes, as usual, and said: "The hadith isauthentic," and some scholars among the later researchers knowledgeable about hadith stated that he said it is a good (hasan) hadith.

- .... And this was the last I heard from his luminous tongue and the most accurate I could recall of his spiritual speech on this topic: The Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said: "I am the city of knowledge, and Ali is its gate. Allah, the Exalted, said: {And enter houses through their doors} (Surah Al-Baqarah 2:189). Therefore, whoever seeks knowledge should go to the gate."
- .... Imam Ali (peace be upon him): He inherited the knowledge of letters from our master Muhammad (peace be upon him and his holy progeny), and he is alluded to in his (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) statement: "I am the city of knowledge, and Ali is its gate. Whoever seeks knowledge should go to the gate." Ali (peace be upon him) inherited the knowledge of the ancients and the modernes, and I have not seen anyone among those with whom I have gathered who is more knowledgeable than him. Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "Imam Ali (peace be upon him) was given nine-tenths of knowledge, and he is indeed the most knowledgeable of them regarding the remaining tenth."
