2657 - Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn Salih Abu Bakr al-Tammar narrated from Kathir ibn Yahya, a companion of al-Basri, and Muhammad ibn Muslim ibn Wararah al-Razi. He was narrated to by: Abu Umar ibn al-Sammak and Abu Bakr al-Shafi'i. Muhammad ibn Talhah ibn Muhammad al-Na'ali said: It was read to Abu Bakr Muhammad ibn Abdullah ibn Ibrahim al-Shafi'i while I was listening. He was asked: Did Abu Bakr Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn Salih al-Tammar narrate to you? He replied: Muhammad ibn Muslim ibn Wararah narrated to us that Abdullah ibn Ruja' narrated to us that Israel narrated to us from Abu Ishaq from Habashi ibn Junadah, who said: I was sitting with Abu Bakr when he said: Whoever has a promise with the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) should stand up. A man stood and said: O Caliph of the Messenger of Allah, the Messenger of Allah promised me three handfuls of dates. He said: Send for Ali. So he called Ali and said: O Abu al-Hasan, this one claims that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) promised him three handfuls of dates. Please give them to him. Ali then gave him the dates. Abu Bakr said: Count them. They counted them and found sixty dates in each handful, with none differing by more than one. Abu Bakr then said: Al-Siddiq (the Truthful) spoke the truth. Allah and His Messenger spoke the truth. The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said to me on the night of migration while we were leaving the cave and heading to the city: Your hand and Ali's hand are equal in justice.

I greeted him, and he returned my greeting and offered me some dates from the heap, filling his hand. I counted them, and they numbered seventy-three dates. Then I went from him to Ali ibn Abi Talib, who also had dates before him. I greeted him, and he returned my greeting, smiled at me, and offered me some dates from the heap, filling his hand. I counted them, and there were also seventy-three dates. I was astonished by this, so I rushed back to the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) and said: 'O Messenger of Allah, I came to you while there were dates before you, and you offered me from your hand, and I counted seventy-three dates. Then I went to Ali ibn Abi Talib, who had dates before him, and he offered me from his hand, and I also counted seventy-three dates.' I was amazed at this." The Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) smiled and said: "O Abu Huraira, do you not know that my hand and the hand of Ali ibn Abi Talib are equal in justice?"

Then he continued: Muhammad ibn Muslim ibn Warra narrated to us, saying: Abdullah ibn Rajaa narrated to us, from Isra'il, from Abu Ishaq, from Habashi ibn Junada, who said: "I was sitting with Abu Bakr, and he said: 'Whoever has an appointment with the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) should stand up.' A man stood and said: 'O Caliph of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny), the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) promised me three handfuls of dates.' Abu Bakr said: 'Send for Ali.' Then he said: 'O Abu al-Hasan, this man claims that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) promised him three handfuls of dates.' A man stood and said: "Indeed, the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) promised me three handfuls of dates." Abu Bakr said: "Send for Ali." So he came and said: "O Abu al-Hasan, this one claims such and such," and he gestured for him to have a handful. Abu Bakr said: "Count them." They counted, and found each handful to be sixty dates, not one more. Abu Bakr said: "Allah and His Messenger spoke the truth." The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said to me one night during the hijrah in the cave: "Enough is enough, and my hand on Ali's is that both are equal in justice."

- .... Among them is that his hand was like his hand (peace be upon him): from Habashi ibn Junadah, who said: I was sitting with Abu Bakr when he said: Whoever has a debt with the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) should stand up. Then a man stood and said: O Khalifah of the Messenger of Allah, the Messenger of Allah promised me three handfuls of dates. Abu Bakr said: Send for Ali. So they sent for him, and he came and said: O Abu al-Hasan, this man claims that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) promised him three handfuls of dates, so please give them to him. He then took three handfuls and said, O Abu Bakr, my hand and Ali's hand are equal in justice." Abu Bakr replied: Count them. So they counted, and found that in each handful were sixty dates, with none varying from another. Abu Bakr said: Allah and His Messenger have spoken the truth. The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said to me on the night of the migration, while we were leaving the cave and heading to the city: "O Abu Bakr, my hand and Ali's hand are equal in justice."
