15530 - Ya'qub ibn Ibrahim narrated to us, saying: My father narrated to us, saying: Muhammad ibn Ishaq narrated to us, from Aban ibn Salih, from al-Fadl ibn Abdullah ibn Ma'qil ibn Sinan, from Abdullah ibn Niyar al-Aslami, from Amr ibn Sha's al-Aslami, who said: "And he was one of the companions of Hudaybiyyah." He continued: "I went out with Ali to Yemen, and he distanced himself from me during that journey, so I felt something in myself against him. When I returned, I began to show my complaint about him in the mosque until that reached the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny). I entered the mosque one morning, and the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) was with some of his companions. When he saw me, he fixed his eyes on me, saying: 'Narrow your gaze at me,' until I sat down. Then he said: 'O Amr, by Allah, you have indeed harmed me.' I said: 'I seek refuge with Allah from harming you, O Messenger of Allah!' He replied: 'Yes, whoever harms Ali, harms me.'"

He said: I went out with Ali to Yemen, and he was unkind to me during that journey, to the point that I felt resentment towards him. When I returned, I feigned a complaint in the mosque, and this reached the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny). One morning, I entered the mosque while the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) was in it with some of his companions. When he saw me, he narrowed his eyes at me, saying with his gaze, "Look intently at me," until I sat down. Then he said: "O Amr, by Allah, you have indeed hurt me." I replied: "I seek refuge in Allah from hurting you, O Messenger of Allah!" He said: "Indeed, whoever harbors resentment against Ali has hurt me."
