4677 - Abu al-Abbas Muhammad ibn Ya'qub narrated to us, saying: Abu Zur'ah al-Dimashqi narrated to us, saying: Muhammad ibn Khalid al-Wahbi narrated to us, saying: Muhammad ibn Ishaq narrated to us, and Ahmad ibn Ja'far al-Bazzar informed us, saying: Abdullah ibn Ahmad ibn Hanbal narrated to me, saying: My father narrated to us, saying: Ya'qub ibn Ibrahim ibn Sa'd narrated to us from Muhammad ibn Ishaq, who was one of the companions of Hudaybiyyah. He said: We set out with Ali (r) to Yemen, and he was distant with me during that journey, until I felt something in myself. When I returned, I began to show my complaint about him in the mosque until this reached the Messenger of Allah (s.a.w.a.). He said: I entered the mosque one morning while the Messenger of Allah (s.a.w.a.) was in the company of some of his companions, and when he saw me, he directed his eyes at me. He then said, as if to indicate my discomfort, until I sat down and then said: "O Umar, and as for you...by Allah, you have hurt me." I said: "I seek refuge in Allah from hurting you, O Messenger of Allah." He replied: "Indeed, whoever harms Ali harms me." This is a hadith with a reliable chain of transmission, and neither of them recorded it.

14736 - Amr ibn Shas al-Aslami narrated - and he was one of the companions of Hudaybiyyah - who said: I went out with Ali (peace be upon him) to Yemen, and he was distant with me during that journey until I felt a sense of resentment towards him. When I returned to Medina, I began to show my complaint about him in the mosque until it reached the ears of رسول الله (peace be upon him and his holy progeny). One morning, I entered the mosque and رسول الله (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) was sitting with some of his companions. When he saw me, he expressed his displeasure with his eyes - saying: "Focus your gaze on me" - until when I sat down, he said: "O Amr, by Allah, you have indeed hurt me." I replied: "I seek refuge in Allah from hurting you, O Messenger of Allah!" He said: "Indeed, whoever hurts Ali hurts me." This was narrated by Ahmad and al-Tabarani with brevity, and al-Bazzar in even briefer terms, and the men of Ahmad are trustworthy.
