- .... Muhammad ibn Ishaq said: Aban ibn Salih narrated to us from Abdullah ibn Niyar al-Aslami, from his maternal uncle Amr ibn Shas al-Aslami, who was one of the companions of Hudaybiyyah. He said: I was with Ali ibn Abi Talib in the cavalry that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) sent him with to Yemen, and Ali treated me with some coldness, so I felt a grievance in my heart against him. When I arrived in Medina, I complained about him in the gatherings of the city and to those I met. One day, I came while the Messenger of Allah was sitting in the mosque. When he saw me, he looked into my eyes until I sat down beside him. When I sat down, he said: "By Allah, Amr ibn Shas, you have indeed hurt me." I replied, "Indeed, we belong to Allah, and indeed to Him we shall return. I seek refuge in Allah and Islam from being the cause of hurting the Messenger of Allah." He said, "Whoever harms Ali has harmed me." Al-Bayhaqi also narrated this from another source.

- .... And Yunus ibn Bakir said, from Muhammad ibn Ishaq, who told me: Aban ibn Salih, from Abdullah ibn Dinar al-Aslami, from his maternal uncle, Amr ibn Shash al-Aslami - who was one of the companions of Hudaybiyyah - who said: I was with Ali in his cavalry that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) sent him with to Yemen, and Ali was showing me some slight aloofness, so I felt disturbed with him in my heart. When I returned to Medina, I complained about him in the gatherings of the city and to those I met. One day, I was approaching while the Messenger of Allah was sitting in the mosque. When he saw me looking, he fixed his gaze on my eyes until I sat down beside him. When I sat down with him, he said: "Indeed, by Allah, Amr, you have displeased me." I said: "Indeed, we belong to Allah, and indeed to Him we shall return. I seek refuge in Allah and Islam from being the cause of discomfort to the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny)." He replied: "Whoever displeases Ali has displeased me." And Imam Ahmad narrated it from Ya'qub, from his father Ibrahim ibn Sa'd, from Muhammad ibn Ishaq, from Aban ibn Salih, from al-Fadl ibn Ma'qal, from Abdullah ibn Dinar, from his maternal uncle, Amr ibn Shash, and mentioned it.
