Musnad of the Ten Promised Paradise - Musnad of Saeed ibn Zaid ibn Amr ibn Nufayl (ra)
Volume: (1) - Page Number: (187)
1632 - Yahiya ibn Saeed narrated to us, from Sadaqah ibn al-Muthanna, who said: My grandfather, Riyah ibn al-Harith, informed me that Al-Mughira ibn Shu'ba was in the grand mosque, and the people of Kufa were gathered around him, to his right and to his left. Then a man named Saeed ibn Zaid approached him and Al-Mughira greeted him and seated him at his feet on the bed. A man from the people of Kufa came and confronted Al-Mughira, and began to curse and insult him, saying: Who is this that you are cursing, Al-Mughira? He replied: He is cursing Ali ibn Abi Talib. The man said: O Al-Mughira ibn Shu'ba, O Al-Mughira ibn Shu'ba, three times! Do I not see the companions of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) being cursed in your presence, and you do not refute it or show any change? I testify before the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) to what my ears have heard and my heart has comprehended from the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny), for I was not one to narrate lies about him. If asked about it when I meet him, I will say that he said: Abu Bakr is in Paradise, Umar is in Paradise, Ali is in Paradise, Uthman is in Paradise, Talha is in Paradise, Zubair is in Paradise, Abdul Rahman is in Paradise, Saad ibn Malik is in Paradise, and the ninth of the believers is in Paradise. If I wished to name him, I could. He said: Then the people of the mosque erupted, imploring him, "O servant of the Messenger of Allah, who is the ninth?" He replied: "You are asking me by Allah, and by Allah the Almighty, I am the ninth of the believers, and the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) is the tenth." Then he followed this with an oath, saying: "By Allah, the sight of a man with dust on his face, witnessing with the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny), is better than the deeds of any of you, even if Umar were to live the lifespan of Noah (peace be upon him)."

If I wished, I could name the tenth."

Shu'bah narrated to me, from al-Harr ibn Siyah, from Abd al-Rahman ibn al-Akhnas: that al-Mughira ibn Shu'ba delivered a sermon and spoke ill of Ali (a). Sa'id ibn Zayd stood up and said: "I bear witness that I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) say: 'The Messenger of Allah is in paradise, Abu Bakr is in paradise, Umar is in paradise, Ali is in paradise, Uthman is in paradise, Abd al-Rahman is in paradise, Talha is in paradise, al-Zubair is in paradise, Sa'd is in paradise.'" Then he said, "If you wish, I can tell you about the tenth," and he mentioned himself.

Then Saeed ibn Zaid stood up and said: "Aren't you amazed that he is insulting Ali (peace be upon him)? I bear witness to the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) that we were on Mount Harrah or Uhud, and the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said, 'Be firm, O Harrah or Uhud, for there is nothing upon you but a friend or a martyr.'" The Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) named the ten, mentioning: Abu Bakr, Umar, Uthman, Ali, Talha, Zubair, Saad, Abdullah ibn Umar, and he named himself Saeed.

Ahmad ibn Hanbal - Fada'il al-Sahabah (Virtues of the Companions)

90 - Abdullah narrated to us, saying: Ibrahim ibn al-Hajjaj al-Najji narrated to us, saying: Abd al-Wahid ibn Ziyad narrated to us, saying: Sadaqah ibn al-Muthanna al-Nakha'i narrated to us, from his grandfather, Rayah ibn al-Harith, who said: We were in the mosque with al-Mughira ibn Shu'bah and many people when Sa'id ibn Zayd ibn Amr ibn Nufail came. Al-Mughira made room for him and said: "Sit here," so he sat with him on the platform. Then a young man from the people of Kufa, named Qays ibn Alqamah, came and faced al-Mughira, insulting and being insulted. Sa'id ibn Zayd said: "Who is this one insulting?" Al-Mughira replied: "He is insulting Ali." Sa'id said: "Woe to you, O al-Mughira! Do I not see the companions of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) being insulted in your presence, and you do not change? I will not say anything against him that has not been said unless he asks me about it on the Day of Resurrection." He heard him say: "Lying about me is not like lying about anyone else. Whoever lies about me deliberately, let him take his place in the Fire. Abu Bakr is in Paradise, Umar is in Paradise, Ali is in Paradise, Uthman ibn Affan is in Paradise, Abd al-Rahman ibn Awf and Sa'd ibn Malik are in Paradise, al-Zubayr is in Paradise, Talhah is in Paradise, and the ninth of the Muslims, if I wished to name him, I would." Then the people murmured and said: "O companion of the Messenger of Allah, tell us who the ninth of the Muslims is," and they urged him. He said: "If you had not pressed me, I would not have informed you. I am the ninth of the believers, and the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) will complete the tenth." Then he said: "By Allah, the position of a man or the presence of a man with the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny), in which his face is covered in dust, is better than the worship of any of you for a lifetime."
