6771 - Isma'il ibn Musa ibn Bint al-Suddi narrated to us, saying: Sa'id ibn Khatheym al-Hilali narrated to us, from al-Walid ibn Yasar al-Hamdani
from Ali ibn Abi Talhah, a client of the Banu Umayyah, who said: Mu'awiyah ibn Abi Sufyan performed Hajj, and Mu'awiyah ibn Hadiyj accompanied him. He was one of the most outspoken people against Ali. He passed by in Medina while al-Hasan ibn Ali and a group of his companions were sitting, and it was said to him: This is Mu'awiyah ibn Hadiyj, who insults Ali. Ali said: A man. Then a messenger came to him and said: Respond to him. He replied: Who? The messenger said: Al-Hasan ibn Ali is calling you. So he went to him and greeted him. Al-Hasan said to him: Are you Mu'awiyah ibn Hadiyj? He said: Yes. Al-Hasan replied: That is being returned to you. The man said: So you insult Ali? It was as if he felt embarrassed. Al-Hasan then said to him: By Allah, if you were to drink from him at the Pond, and I do not see you doing so, you would find him with his garment hiked up to his shins, warding off from it the banners of the hypocrites, as a shepherd wards off a flock of strange camels, with the statement of the truthful, the trusted one: {And, indeed, he has failed who fabricated} (Ta-Ha 20:61).
