11986 - Wuqay' narrated to us, from Mas'ar, from Abu Ayyub, a freedman of the Banu Thalabah, from Qutbah ibn Malik, who said: "A chief from among the commanders cursed Ali, and Zayd ibn Arqam stood up to him and said: 'Indeed, I know that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) forbade cursing the dead, so why do you curse Ali, who is dead?'"

31946 - Muhammad ibn Bashar narrated to us, who said: Sadaqah ibn al-Muthanna narrated to us, who said: I heard my grandfather Rubah ibn al-Harith mention that he witnessed al-Mughira ibn Shu'bah, who was in Kufa, in the larger mosque. And they were all gathered, both to his right and left, until a man from the people of Medina, named Sa'id ibn Zayd ibn Nufayl, came. Al-Mughira welcomed him and seated him at his feet on the platform. While he was in that position, a man from the people of Kufa entered, named Qays ibn Alqamah and he confronted al-Mughira, cursing him, and al-Mughira cursed back. The man from Medina said to al-Mughira: "O Mughira ibn Shu'bah, who is this young man you are cursing?" He replied: "He is cursing Ali ibn Abi Talib." The man repeated to him twice: "O Mughira ibn Shu'bah, don't I see the companions of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) being cursed in your presence, and you do not object or change anything?" He continued: "I bear witness to the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) regarding what my ears heard and my heart comprehended, that I will not narrate from him any lies after this when questioned by him if I meet him." He stated: "He said, 'Abu Bakr is in Paradise, Umar is in Paradise, Uthman is in Paradise, Ali is in Paradise, Talha is in Paradise, az-Zubair is in Paradise, Abd ar-Rahman ibn Awf is in Paradise, Sa'd is in Paradise, and another ninth whom I could name if I wished.'" Then the people of the mosque began to leave, beseeching him by Allah: "O companion of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny), who is the ninth?" He replied: "You are beseeching me by Allah, and Allah is Great! I am the ninth of the believers, and the Prophet of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) is the tenth." Then he added, "By Allah, this is better than any scene that man witnessed in a single day in the way of Allah with the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny), surpassing the knowledge of any one of you, even if he lived the lifespan of Noah."

32122 - Ja'far ibn Aun narrated to us, saying: Sufyan ibn Abi Abdullah narrated to us, saying: Abu Bakr ibn Khalid ibn Arfatah narrated to us, saying: I came to Sa'd ibn Malik in Medina, and he said: It was mentioned to me that you insult Ali. He replied: We have indeed done so. Sa'd said: Perhaps you have insulted him yourself. I said: Far from it, and he said: Then do not insult him, for even if a saw were placed on my head, and I were told to insult Ali, I would never insult him again after what I heard from the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny): what I heard.

32078 - Abu Mu'awiya narrated to us, from Musa ibn Muslim, from Abd al-Rahman ibn Sabit from Sa'd, who said:Mu'awiya came to Medina during one of his pilgrimages, and Sa'd went to him. They mentioned Ali, and Mu'awiya spoke ill of him, which made Sa'd angry. He said: "You speak of this man? I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) say that he has three characteristics, and having one of them is dearer to me than the world and everything in it. I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) say, 'Whoever I am his Mawla, Ali is his Mawla.' And I heard the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) say, 'You are to me as Harun was to Musa, except that there is no Prophet after me.' And I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) say, 'I will give the banner to a man who loves Allah and His Messenger.'"
