- .... Yahya al-Qattan and a group from Sadaqa ibn al-Muthanna narrated to me: My grandfather Riyah ibn al-Harith said that al-Mughira was in the Grand Mosque with the people of Kufa, and a man from Kufa approached al-Mughira and began to insult and provoke him. Then Sa'id ibn Zayd said: Who is this insulting you, O al-Mughira? He replied: He insults Ali ibn Abi Talib. Sa'id said: O al-Mughira ibn Shu'ayb, O al-Mughira ibn Shu'ayb, do you not hear the companions of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) being insulted in your presence, and you neither deny it nor show any disapproval? I bear witness to the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) regarding what my ears heard and my heart comprehended from the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny), for I was not one to narrate falsehoods about him. He said, "Abu Bakr is in Paradise, Umar is in Paradise, Ali is in Paradise, Uthman is in Paradise, Talha is in Paradise, al-Zubayr is in Paradise, Abd al-Rahman is in Paradise, Sa'd ibn Malik is in Paradise, and a ninth of the believers is in Paradise. If I wished, I could name him." Then the people of the mosque erupted, urging him, "O companion of the Messenger of Allah, who is the ninth?" He replied: "You urge me by Allah, and Allah is the Greatest! I am he, and the tenth is the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny)." By Allah, there is no scene witnessed by a man with the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) that is superior to the deeds of any of you, even if he were to live as long as Noah." Abu Dawood, al-Nasa'i, and Ibn Majah narrated this through the chain of Sadaqa, Shu'bah from al-Har, who said: I heard a man named Abd al-Rahman ibn al-Akhnas say: Al-Mughira ibn Shu'ayb addressed the people and spoke ill of Ali, and Sa'id ibn Zayd stood up and said: What do you want with this? I bear witness to the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) that he would say there are ten in Paradise: the Messenger of Allah is in Paradise, and Abu Bakr is in Paradise... [the narration continues]. Al-Har is Ibn al-Siyaḥ.

- .... Ibn Abi Umar and a group of others who were listening told us, saying: Hanbal informed us, saying: Hibat Allah informed us, saying: Ibn al-Madhhab narrated to us, saying: Ahmad ibn Ja'far narrated to us, saying: Abdullah ibn Ahmad narrated to me, saying: my father narrated to us, saying: Muhammad ibn Ja'far narrated to us, saying: Shu'bah narrated to us, from Husayn, from Hilal ibn Yasaf from Abdullah ibn Zahim, who said: Al-Mughira gave a speech and spoke ill of Ali. So Sa'id ibn Zayd stood up and said: "Are you not amazed by this? He insults Ali, witness that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) and I were on Harra or Uhud, and the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said: 'Stand firm, Harra or Uhud, for there is only a Prophet, a Siddiq, or a martyr upon you.' And he named the Prophet, and Abu Bakr, Umar, Uthman, Ali, Talha, al-Zubayr, Sa'd, and Abd al-Rahman, and Sa'id named himself among them" (r). And there are other narrations.

- .... And Salih ibn Kaysan said: Sa'id ibn al-As used to show some slight tremor from the affliction that befell him, but despite that, he was one of the most dignified and patient of men. Ibn Aun narrated from Umayr ibn Ishaq who said: Marwan used to curse Ali (ra) in the congregational prayers, but when he was removed and replaced with Sa'id ibn al-As, he did not curse him.
