- .... Al-Bukhari said:
And Abu al-Yaman said: Hariz used to take from a man and then stopped, meaning Ali (may Allah be pleased with him).- .... Abu Ahmad ibn Adi said: Ibn Abi Asim narrated to us, saying: Ahmad ibn Abi Yahya narrated to us, saying: I heard Ahmad ibn Hanbal say: "Hariz's narrations are around three hundred, and they are valid (sahih) narrations
except that he holds a bias against Ali." Abu Ubayd al-Ajuri said from Abu Dawud: "I asked Ahmad ibn Hanbal about Hariz, and he said: 'Trustworthy, trustworthy, trustworthy.'"
- .... Ahmad ibn Abdullah al-Ijli said: "He is a Levantine (Shami) and trustworthy,
but he was biased against Ali." Amr ibn Ali said:
"He used to belittle Ali and speak ill of him." He was a hafiz (memorizer) of his narrations. I heard Yahya narrating from Thawr from him, and he said in another place:
"He was reliable and strongly biased against Ali."- .... Muhammad ibn Abdullah ibn Ammar al-Mawsili said:
"They suspect him of having belittled Ali." They narrate from him and accept his hadiths, and do not abandon them.
- .... Ahmad ibn Sulayman al-Rahawi said: I heard Yazid ibn Harun say, and it was said to him:
"Hariz used to say, 'I do not love Ali; he killed my fathers.'" He replied, 'I did not hear this from him. He would say, 'He is our Imam, but your Imam.'"- .... Al-Hasan ibn Ali al-Khallal said: I said to Yazid ibn Harun: "Have you heard anything from Hariz ibn Uthman that you would find objectionable in this context?" He replied: "I asked him not to mention anything from this, fearing that I might hear something that would make it difficult for me to narrate from him." He said: "The most severe thing I heard him say was:
'We have an Amir, and you have an Amir,' meaning, 'We have Muawiya, and you have Ali.'" So I said to Yazid: "He is placing you above himself." He replied: "Yes."
- .... Al-Khallal also said:
Imran ibn Aban narrated to us, saying: I heard Hariz ibn Uthman say, 'I do not love him; he killed my fathers,' meaning Ali." Ya'qub ibn Sufyan narrated: Muhammad ibn Abdullah said: I heard some of our companions mention from Yazid ibn Harun:
"Hariz ibn Uthman said, 'I do not love one who killed two of my grandfathers.'"- .... Ahmad ibn Sa'id al-Darmi said from Ahmad ibn Sulayman al-Mawrazi:
Isma'il ibn Iyash narrated to us, saying: I traveled with Hariz ibn Uthman from Egypt to Mecca, and he kept cursing Ali and reviling him.- .... Muhammad ibn Amr al-Aqili said: Muhammad ibn Ayub ibn Yahya ibn al-Dharis narrated to us, saying:
Yahya ibn al-Mughira narrated to us: Jarir mentioned that Hariz used to curse Ali from the pulpits.- .... Abu Bakr Muhammad ibn al-Hasan ibn Ziyad al-Naqqash al-Muqri said: Masi'h ibn Hatim narrated to us, saying: Sa'id ibn Safiri al-Wasiti narrated to us: I was in a gathering of Ahmad ibn Hanbal, and a man said to him: "O Abu Abdullah, I saw Yazid ibn Harun in a dream and said to him, 'What did Allah do with you?'" He replied: "He forgave me, had mercy on me, and admonished me." I said: "Forgave you, had mercy on you, and admonished you?" He said: "Yes. He said to me, 'O Yazid ibn Harun, you wrote from Hariz ibn Uthman.'" I said, 'O Lord of Might, I knew of nothing but good.'"
He replied, 'Indeed, he disliked Abu al-Hasan Ali ibn Abi Talib.'" This dream was reported from Yazid ibn Harun through multiple channels.
- .... Abu Ahmad ibn Adi said: "Hariz ibn Uthman is among the more reliable (thabat) in the Shamiyin, and trustworthy ones like Walid ibn Muslim, Muhammad ibn Shu'ayb, Isma'il ibn Iyash, Mubashshir ibn Isma'il, and others, including Isam ibn Khalid and Yahya al-Wuhhazi, narrate from him. Trustworthy individuals from the people of Iraq who narrated from him include Yahya al-Qattan, and that is sufficient, as well as Mu'adh ibn Mu'adh, Yazid ibn Harun, Ahmad ibn Hanbal, Yahya ibn Ma'in, and Duhaim.
He was only regarded with some disdain due to his animosity towards Ali, and they spoke about him.
