115 - And with this chain, from Abu Isa al-Tirmidhi, he said: Qutaybah narrated to us, Hatem ibn Isma'il narrated to us, from Bakir ibn Ammar from Amir ibn Sa'd ibn Abi Waqqas, from his father, who said: Mu'awiya ibn Abi Sufyan instructed Sa'd and said: "What prevented you from reviling Abu Turab?" Sa'd replied: "As for the three things you mentioned that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said to him, I will not revile him. To have one of those be dearer to me than red camels is better: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) say to Ali, who was behind him in one of the campaigns: Ali said to him, 'O Messenger of Allah, will you leave me with the women and children?' The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) replied, 'Are you not pleased to be to me as Harun was to Musa, except that there is no prophet after me?'" And I heard him say on the day of Khaybar: "I will surely give the banner tomorrow to a man who loves Allah and His Messenger and is loved by Allah and His Messenger." So we all tried to show our readiness for it. He said, "Call me Ali." Ali came to him, and he had a sore eye. The Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) spitted in his eye and gave him the banner, and Allah granted him victory, and this verse was revealed: {Say, 'Come, let us call our sons and your sons, our women and your women' } (Surah Al-Imran 3:61). The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) called Ali, Fatimah, Hasan, and Husayn (peace be upon them), and said, "O Allah, these are my family." Abu Isa said: This is a good, strange, and authentic hadith from this source.

171 - And with this chain from Abu Bakr Ahmad ibn Musa ibn Marduyah, this one informed me: Abu Bakr Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn al-Sari ibn Yahya al-Tamimi narrated to us: al-Mundhir ibn Muhammad ibn al-Mundhir narrated to me from my father, who said: My uncle al-Husayn ibn Yusuf ibn Said ibn Abi al-Jahm narrated to me from my father, from Aban ibn Taghlib, from Ali ibn Muhammad ibn al-Mankadir, from Umm Salamah, the wife of the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny), who was the youngest and most affectionate of his wives. She said: "And she had a protector who used to tend to her and raise her, and he would not perform any prayer without insulting Ali and reviling him." So she said to him: "O father, what has led you to insult Ali?" He replied: "Because he killed Uthman and participated in his blood." She said: "Know that if you were not my protector and had not raised me, and you were not in my eyes like a father, I would not share with you the secret of رسول الله (peace be upon him and his holy progeny)." However, sit down until I tell you about Ali." And she continued, "I saw him approach the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) on my day, which was only one day out of nine days that he was with his wives. The Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) entered, his fingers tangled in those of Ali, his hand placed upon him, and he said: 'O Umm Salamah, leave the house and make it empty for us.' So I exited, and they both began to speak privately, and I could hear the words but did not understand what they were saying, until I thought it was almost noon. I returned and said: 'Peace be upon you. May I enter?' He (the Prophet) replied: (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) 'Do not enter, return to your place.' Then they continued speaking privately for a long time until the noon prayer was about to begin. I said: 'My day is gone, and he is occupied with Ali,' and I approached, walking, until I stood at the door and said: 'Peace be upon you. May I enter?' The Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said: 'No, do not enter. Return to your place.' Then they continued to speak privately for a long time until the noon prayer stood upright. I thought: 'My day is gone, and he is occupied with Ali,' and I walked back to the door, stood there, and said: 'Peace be upon you. May I enter?' The Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) replied: 'Do not enter, return to your place.' Then I saw him and Ali engaged in conversation, and I thought my day was wasted." Finally, I approached, walking, until I stood at the door and said: "Peace be upon you. May I enter?" The Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said: "Yes, you may enter." So I entered, and Ali had his hand on the knees of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny), bringing his mouth close to the Prophet's ear.

398 - And Mahdhib al-A'immah narrated to me that he was informed by Ahmad ibn al-Husayn, who said: My father narrated to us, Hilal ibn Muhammad al-Haffar narrated to us, Abu Bakr al-Naqqash narrated to us, who said: Masih ibn Hatim narrated to us in Basra, ibn A'isha narrated to us, and Hammad ibn Salamah narrated to us, from Ali ibn Zayd, who said: I heard Sa'id ibn al-Musayyib say: "Let your boy pass by, and let him look at the face of this man." I said, "What is it?" He said, "It is because he used to curse Ali," and Talhah and al-Zubayr. So I prayed to Allah against him, and his face was darkened.
