386 - Narrative Twenty-First: He (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) called Ali during the expedition to Ta'if and spoke to him in private, prolonging their conversation until some of the companions began to dislike it. Then, one of them said: "Today, he is prolonging the private talk with his cousin." He (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) became aware of this, gathered a group of them, and then said: "Indeed, someone said: 'Today, he is prolonging the private talk with his cousin.'
But I was not speaking to him in private; rather, Allah was speaking to him in private.'" Ahmad narrated this in al-Musnad.
