1321 - Wahb ibn Buqayyah narrated to us, saying: Khalid narrated to us, from the Ijlakh, from Abu al-Zubayr from Jabir, who said: "The Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) spoke in private with Ali ibn Abi Talib, and the people said, 'O Messenger of Allah, you have been speaking in private with Ali for a long time.' He replied, 'I did not speak in private with him, but Allah spoke in private with him.'"

2163 - Abu Hisham narrated to us, Ibn Fuzail narrated to us, al-Ajlach narrated to us, from Abu al-Zubair, from Jabir, who said: On the day of Ta'if, the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) conversed with Ali for a long time, and some of his companions said: "He has been conversing with his cousin for a long time." When this reached him, he said: "I did not protect him; rather, it was Allah who protected him."

1756 - Muhammad ibn Uthman ibn Abi Shaybah narrated to us, saying: Yahya ibn al-Hasan ibn Furat al-Qazzaz narrated to us, saying: Muhammad ibn Abi Hafs al-'Attar narrated to us, from Salim ibn Abi Hafs, from Abu al-Zubair, from Jabir, who said: On the day of the Battle of Ta'if, the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) stood with Ali (ra) for a long time during the day. Then Abu Bakr (ra) said to him: O Messenger of Allah, you have been conversing with Ali for a long time since this morning. The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) replied: I am not advising him, but Allah is advising him.

1964 - Ali ibn al-Munthir narrated to us, who said: Muhammad ibn Fadail ibn Ghazwan narrated to us, from al-Ajlah, from Abu al-Zubair, from Jabir ibn Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) who said: When it was the day of Ta'if, the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) called Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) and spoke to him in private. Some people said, "He is taking a long time in his private conversation with his cousin." The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said: "I am not speaking to him in private, but Allah, the Almighty, is speaking to him in private."

1126 - Abu Bakr Musmar ibn Amir ibn al-Awais al-Baghdadi narrated to us, saying: Abu al-Abbas Ahmad ibn Abi Ghalib ibn al-Talabah narrated to us, saying: Abu al-Qasim Abdulaziz ibn Ali ibn Ahmad ibn al-Husayn al-Anmati narrated to us, saying: Abu Tahir al-Mukhlis narrated to us, saying: Muhammad ibn Harun al-Hadrami Abu Hamid narrated to us, saying: Abu Hisham Muhammad ibn Yazid ibn Rufaat narrated to us, saying: Muhammad ibn Fudayl narrated to us, from al-Amash, from Abu al-Zubair, from Jabir, who said: When it was the day of Ta'if, the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) called Ali and spoke to him in private for a long time. Some of his companions said: He has prolonged his private conversation with his cousin. He meant the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said: I am not confiding in him, but Allah is confiding in him.

- .... in his intimate supplication, and the people said: Which of the hypocrites or the common companions of the Prophet said it? Al-Qari replied: "You were not chosen for this, meaning you were not specially designated for the intimate supplication, but God chose you," meaning that I conveyed to him from God what He commanded me to deliver to him in the manner of intimate supplication. Then, God chose him, not you, thus it is akin to His statement, Almighty and Glorious be He: {And you did not throw when you threw, but it was God who threw} (Surah al-Anfal 8:17). Al-Taybi said: These were divine secrets and matters of the unseen that He made him one of their guardians.

- Muhammad ibn Salih ibn Dhuraikh narrated to us, saying: Othman ibn Abi Shaybah narrated to us, saying: Abdullah ibn Idris narrated to us, from Al-Ajlah ibn Abdullah al-Kindi, from al-Sha'bi, from Zur, from Ubay ibn Ka'b, who said: "I know the Night of Decree (Laylat al-Qadr). It is the Night of the Twenty-Seventh. It is the night that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) informed us about. It appears in the morning after it, bright and shimmering, with no rays." Abdaan narrated to us, saying: Wahb ibn Baqiyyah narrated to us, saying: Khalid narrated to us, from Al-Ajlah, from Abu al-Zubair, from Jabir, that the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) privately spoke with Ali (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) for a day during the Expedition of Ta'if, and they said: "Your conversation with Ali has been lengthy since today." He replied: "I was not speaking with him in private, but Allah, the Almighty, was speaking with him in private."

3898 - al-Hasan ibn Fahd, Abu Ali al-Nahrawani, the companion of Abu al-Husayn ibn Ruh. Abu al-Husayn mentioned to me that he was with him in Kufa and heard from Muhammad ibn Ibrahim al-Kahili. I wrote down a little from him in Nahrawan. al-Hasan ibn Fahd informed us in the year 427 AH. Abu al-Husayn Muhammad ibn Ibrahim ibn Salamah al-Kahili informed us, Muhammad ibn Abdullah ibn Sulayman al-Hadrami informed us, Wahb ibn Buqayeh narrated to us, and Khalid narrated to us, from al-Ajlah, from Abu al-Zubair, from Jabir, that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) privately addressed Ali (peace be upon him) during the Battle of Ta'if one day, and they said, "Your conversations with Ali have been lengthy today." He replied, "I did not privately address him; rather, Allah chose him."

155 - And al-Sheikh al-Salih al-Allam al-Auhad Abu al-Fath Abdul Malik ibn Abi al-Qasim ibn Abi Sahl al-Khwarizmi al-Herawi narrated to us from his three teachers: al-Qadi Abu Amer Mahmud ibn al-Qasim al-Azdhi, Abu Nasr Abdul Aziz ibn Muhammad al-Tiryaki, and Abu Bakr Ahmad ibn Abdul Samad al-Ghurji, all three of them from Abu Muhammad Abdul Jabbar ibn Muhammad al-Jarahi, from Abu al-Abbas Muhammad ibn Ahmad al-Mahbubi, from Imam al-Hafiz Abu Isa Muhammad ibn Isa al-Tirmidhi. He said: Ali ibn al-Mundhir narrated to us, who said: Muhammad ibn Fadhl narrated to us, from al-Agilj, from Abu al-Zubair, from Jabir, who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) called Ali on the day of Ta'if and confided in him, and the people said: "His private talk with his cousin has been long." The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) replied: "I was not confiding in him, but Allah was confiding in him."
