Imam Ali (a.s.) is the standard bearer of the "Flag of Praise" on the Day of Judgement

Ahmad ibn Hanbal - Fada'il al-Sahabah - Among the Virtues of Ali (peace be upon him)
And from the virtues of Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) from the hadith of Abu Bakr ibn Malik, narrated from his teachers, except for Abdullah

1127 - Muhammad ibn Hisham ibn al-Bukhtari narrated to us, saying: Hussain ibn Ubaydullah al-Ajli narrated to us, saying: Al-Fudayl ibn Marzuq narrated to us, from Atiyyah al-Awfi, from Abu Sa'id al-Khudri, who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said: "I was given five things concerning Ali that are dearer to me than the world and everything in it: One of them is that he will be a shield before Allah, the Exalted, until He finishes with the Day of Judgment and the second is the Banner of Praise in his hand, held by Adam (peace be upon him) and his descendants. The third is that he will stand at the edge of my cistern (Hawz) watering whomever he recognizes from my Ummah. The fourth is that he will cover my nakedness and submit to my Lord, the Exalted. And the fifth is that I do not fear for him returning as a fornicator after being protected (in marriage) or as a disbeliever after having faith."

- On the authority of Abu Sa'id al-Khudri, who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said, "I was given five things regarding Ali that are dearer to me than the world and everything in it. As for one: he will be my support before Allah, the Almighty, until He concludes the reckoning. As for the second: the Banner of Praise will be in his hand, with Adam and his descendants underneath it. As for the third: he will be standing at the fore of my Pool, giving drink to those he recognizes from my community. As for the fourth: he will be the one shielding my nakedness and submitting to my Lord, the Almighty. And as for the fifth: I do not fear that he will return as a sinner after being made lawful, or as a disbeliever after having faith." Ahmad narrated this in al-Manaqib.

33047 - I asked Allah: "O Ali, for you I asked for five, and He denied me one and gave me four." I asked Allah to unite my Ummah upon you, but He refused me. He gave me concerning you that the first to rise from the earth on the Day of Resurrection will be me, and you will be with me, carrying the Banner of Praise, and you will hold it in your hands, leading both the first and the last. He also gave me concerning you that you are the Guide of the Believers after me.

36476 - Shadhdan also said: Abu Talib Abdullah ibn Muhammad ibn Abdullah al-Katib bi-Akbari informed us, saying: Abu al-Qasim Abdullah ibn Muhammad ibn Ghyath al-Khurasani informed us, who said: Ahmad ibn Amir ibn Sulaym al-Taghlibi narrated to us, saying: Ali ibn Musa al-Ridha narrated to me, from my father Musa, who said: my father Ja'far narrated to me, from my father Muhammad, who said: my father Ali narrated to me, from al-Husayn, who said: my father Ali ibn Abi Talib narrated to me, saying: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said, "O Ali, I asked my Lord, the Almighty and Exalted be He, for you five special traits, and He granted me them. As for the first, I asked my Lord for the earth to split open for me, to dust off my head, and for you to be with me, and He granted me this. As for the second, I asked Him to grant me success at the balance's scale, with you by my side, and He granted me this. As for the third, I asked Him to make you the bearer of my banner, which is the Banner of Allah, the Greatest, under which the successful and those victorious in Paradise will be, and He granted me this. As for the fourth, I asked my Lord to allow you to give my ummah (community) water from my pool, and He granted me this. And for the fifth, I asked my Lord to make you the leader of my ummah to Paradise, and He granted me this. So, praise be to Allah, who bestowed this upon me."

- And Abu Sa'id al-Khudri said: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said: "I was given five things concerning Ali, and he is dearer to me than the world and everything in it: One of them is my standing firm in prayer before Allah, the Almighty, until He finishes with the sinners, and the second is the Banner of Praise in his hand, with Adam and his descendants beneath it." The third is that he will be standing at the edge of my pond, giving drink to those he recognizes from my الأمة (ummah). The fourth is that he will be a protector of my dignity and a submitter to my Lord, the Almighty. And the fifth is that I do not fear for him returning as a fornicator after being made lawful (through marriage) or as a disbeliever after having faith."

- Hadith Nineteen: "I was given five things regarding Ali that are dearer to me than the world and everything in it. The first is that he will be like a barrier before Allah, the Almighty, until He finishes accounting for the creatures. The second is that the Banner of Praise will be in his hand, with Adam and his descendants underneath it. The third is that he will be standing at the edge of my Pond, giving drink to those he recognizes from my Ummah. The fourth is that he will be a cover for my nakedness and my submission to my Lord. The fifth is that I do not fear for him returning to disbelief after faith, or engaging in fornication after being shielded." Ahmad narrated it in his book on virtues.

As for the first, I asked my Lord that the earth be split open for me, and that the dust be brushed from my head while you are with me, and He granted me. As for the second, I asked my Lord to stand me next to you at the scale of judgment while you are with me, and He granted me. As for the third, I asked Allah to make you the bearer of my banner, which is the Banner of Allah the Greatest, under which the successful and victorious in Paradise will stand, and He granted me. As for the fourth, I asked my Lord to allow my Ummah to drink from my basin, and He granted me. And as for the fifth, I asked my Lord to make you the leader of my Ummah to Paradise, and He granted me. So, praise be to Allah who bestowed this upon me."

Al-Qandozi - Yanabi' al-Mawadda li Dhawi al-Qurba

499 - And from Abu Sa'id al-Khudri, narrated as marfu': "I was given five things concerning Ali that are dearer to Me than the world and everything in it. The first is My supporting him with the authority to intercede on the Day of Judgment between My hands until Allah - Blessed and Exalted be He - finishes with the accounting. The second is the Banner of Praise in his hand, with Adam and his descendants beneath it. The third is standing at the edge of My Pool, giving drink to those he recognizes from My Ummah. The fourth is a cover for My nakedness and one who submits to My Lord - Glorious and Exalted be He. And the fifth is that I do not fear he will return as an adulterer after being made lawful, or as a disbeliever after having faith." Ahmad narrated this in al-Manaqib.

Al-Qundūzī - Yanābí' al-Mawaddah li Dhawi al-Qurbā

659 - On the authority of Abī Sa'īd al-Khudrī (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said: "I was given five virtues in 'Alī that are dearer to me than the world and everything in it. As for the first: he was in front of Allah, the Almighty, until the account is completed And as for the second: the Banner of Praise (Liwa' al-Hamd) will be in his hand. And the third: he will be standing by my Pool (Hawḍ) drinking from it those he knows from my Ummah. As for the fourth: he is my shield against my vulnerability and my submitter to Allah, the Almighty. And the fifth: I do not fear for him returning as a fornicator after being lawfully married, nor as a disbeliever after having faith." This was narrated by Imam Ahmad in his Musnad.

64 - Ahmad also has a raised narration (marfu') in al-Manaqib from his hadith: "I was given five things regarding Ali that are dearer to Me than the world and all it contains: The first is that he will be before Allah until the Day of Judgment is completed. The second is that the Banner of Praise (Liwa' al-Hamd) will be in his hand, with Adam and all those beneath him under it. The third is that he will be standing at the edge of My Pond (Hawth) watering those of My Ummah who are known to him."

The second is that the Banner of Praise will be in his hand, with Adam and his descendants beneath it. The third is that he will be standing by my Pond, giving drink to those he recognizes from my Ummah," and so on with the hadith.

384 - Narration Nineteen: I was given five things in Ali that are dearer to me than the world and what it contains: The first is that he will be like a kab (a person in a humble position) before Allah, the Almighty, until He finishes accounting for the creatures. The second is the Banner of Praise in his hand, with Adam and his descendants beneath it. The third is that he will be standing at the edge of my Pond, providing drinks to those from my Ummah whom he recognizes. The fourth is that he will be a shield for my privacy and one who submits to my Lord on my behalf. The fifth is that I do not fear for him returning to disbelief after faith, or to adultery after chastity. Ahmad narrated this in the Book of Virtues.
