4688 - Abu Bakr Ahmad ibn Jaafar ibn al-Bazzaaz narrated to us in Baghdad, saying: Abdullah ibn Ahmad ibn Hanbal narrated to me, my father narrated to me, Muhammad ibn Jaafar narrated to us, from Awf, from Maymoon Abu Abdillah from Zayd ibn Arqam, who said: A group of the companions of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) had doors opening into the mosque. One day, he said, "Shut these doors except for the door of Ali." Then some people spoke about this, and the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) stood up, praised Allah, and extolled Him, and then said: "As for what follows, I was commanded to close these doors, except for the door of Ali." Then one of you said in it, 'By Allah, I did not close anything nor open anything, but I was commanded to do something and I followed it.'" This is a hadith with a sound chain of transmission, and they did not include it in their collections.
