- .... Ahmad said: Muhammad ibn Ja'far narrated to us, from Auf, from Maymun ibn Abi Abdullah from Zayd ibn Arqam, who said: A group of the Companions of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) had doors opening into the mosque. One day he said, "Close these doors except for Ali's door."
- .... Some people spoke about this, and the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) stood up, praised Allah, and extolled Him. Then he said, "As for what follows, I was commanded to close these doors, except for Ali's door." So, one of you is speaking about it, and I swear by Allah, I did not close anything except that I opened it. Rather, I was commanded to do something, and I followed that command." Abu al-Ashhab narrated it from Auf, from Maymun, from al-Bara' ibn Azib, and mentioned it.
- .... What Ahmad and al-Nasa'i reported from the hadith of Abu 'Uwanah, from Abu Balj, from Amr ibn Maymun from Ibn Abbas is a long hadith that includes the closing of doors except for Ali's door. This was also narrated by Shu'bah from Abu Balj.
- .... And it was narrated by Sa'd ibn Abi Waqqas, who said: My father, Ya'la, narrated to us from Musa ibn Muhammad ibn Hassaan, from Muhammad ibn Isma'il ibn Ja'far al-Tahhan, from Ghassan ibn Busr al-Kahili, from Muslim, from Khaythamah, from Sa'd: that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) closed the doors of the mosque and opened Ali's door. When people spoke about this, he said, "I did not open it; rather, Allah opened it."

- .... So he commanded that the doors opening into the mosque be closed except for his door (r), and those who narrated "except for Ali's door" made a mistake, as it occurred in some hadith collections. The correct understanding is what is established in the authentic narrations. Many of the imams used this verse as evidence that it is forbidden for one in a state of major impurity (junub) to remain in the mosque, although passing through it is permissible. The same applies to women in a state of menstruation or postpartum bleeding (nifas), unless some said that it is forbidden for them to pass through due to the possibility of causing pollution. Others said that if each one feels they can pass through without causing pollution, it is permissible for them to do so; otherwise, it is not. It has been established in Sahih Muslim from Aisha (r) who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said to me, "Hand me the mat..."
