59 - Suleiman ibn Ahmad narrated to us, saying: Muhammad ibn Uthman ibn Abi Shaiba narrated to us, saying: Zakariya ibn Yahya narrated to us, saying: Khalid ibn Mukhild narrated to us, saying: Rashid Abu Salama narrated to us from Abu Dawud, from Buraydah al-Aslami, who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) commanded that the doors be closed, and this was difficult for the companions of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny). When this reached the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny), he called for a congregational prayer (salat al-jama'a). When they had gathered, he ascended the pulpit, and never had the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) been heard offering praise and magnification in a sermon like he did on that day.
He said: O people, I neither closed them nor opened them. Rather, Allah, the Almighty, closed them. Then he recited: {By the star when it falls, your companion has not strayed, nor has he erred, nor does he speak from [his own] inclination. It is not but a revelation revealed} (Surah an-Najm 53:1-4). Then a man said: "Leave me a window to be in the mosque," but he refused and left Ali's door open, and he would enter and exit through it while in a state of ritual impurity (junub).
