- Abu al-Hasan Ahmad ibn al-Mu'tafirr ibn Ahmad al-'Attar, the Shafi'i jurist, narrated to us, saying: Abu Muhammad Abdullah ibn Muhammad ibn Uthman al-Muzani, nicknamed Ibn al-Saqa'i, al-Hafiz, informed us. Ali ibn al-Abbas al-Bajjali narrated to us in Kufa, saying: Hussain ibn Nasr ibn Muzahim narrated to us, saying: Khalid al-Akli narrated to us, saying: Huseyn ibn Makharq narrated to us, saying: Ja'far ibn Muhammad narrated to us, from his father, from Nafid, the freedman of Ibn Umar, who said: I said to Ibn Umar, "Who is the best of people after the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny)?" He said: "What is it to you and that? Your mother would not be pleased with you." Then he said: "I seek forgiveness from Allah. The best of them after him is whoever was permitted to do what he was permitted to do, and was forbidden from what he was forbidden to do." I asked, "Who is he?"
He said: "It is Ali. He blocked the doors of the mosque and left the door of Ali open," and he said to him: "You have in this mosque what I have and upon you is what I have, and you are my heir and my trustee. You will settle my debts, fulfill my promises, and be killed following my Sunnah. It is a lie from one who claims to hate you and love me."
