780 - Waki' narrated to us, from Ibn Abi Layla, from al-Manhal, from Abd al-Rahman ibn Abi Layla, who said: My father used to stay up late in conversation with Ali, and Ali would wear summer clothes in winter and winter clothes in summer. So it was said to him: "Why not ask him?" And he asked him. Ali replied: "Indeed, the Messenger of Allah (pbuh) sent for me while I was suffering from an eye ailment on the day of Khaybar." I said, 'O Messenger of Allah, I have an eye ailment.' Then he spat in my eye and said, 'O Allah, remove from him the heat and cold.' Since that day, I have found neither heat nor cold." And he said, "I will surely give the banner to a man who loves Allah and His Messenger, and whom Allah and His Messenger love, who does not flee in battle." The companions of the Prophet (pbuh) honored this, and he gave it to me.

1611 - Qutaybah ibn Sa'id narrated to us, saying: Hatem ibn Isma'il narrated to us, from Bakir ibn Musmar, from Amir ibn Sa'd, from his father, who said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) speaking to him and standing behind him in one of his campaigns, and Ali (peace be upon him) said: Will you leave me with the women and children? He (the Prophet) said: O Ali, are you not pleased to be to me like Harun (Aaron) to Musa (Moses), except that there is no prophecy after me? And I heard him say on the day of Khaybar: I will give the banner to a man who loves Allah and His Messenger, and Allah and His Messenger love him. So we all tried to extend our hands for it. He said: Call me Ali. Ali was brought to him, blind in one eye, and he spat in his eye and handed the banner to him, and Allah opened (Khaybar) to him. And when this verse was revealed: {So whoever argues with you about him after what has come to you of knowledge, say, "Come, let us call our sons and your sons, our women and your women, and ourselves and yourselves; then let us supplicate earnestly, and invoke the curse of Allah upon the liars" (Surah Al-Imran 3:61)}, the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) called Ali, Fatimah, Hasan, and Husayn, and said: O Allah, these are my family.

The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) would send him forth with the banner, Gabriel on his right, and Michael on his left, and he would not turn back until victory was granted to him.

3052 - Abdullah narrated to us, saying: Yahya ibn Hammad narrated to us, saying: Abu 'Awaneq narrated to us, saying: Abu Balj narrated to us, from Amr ibn Maymun, who said: I was sitting with Ibn Abbas when nine men came to him and said: O Abu Abbas, will you not either stand with us or allow us to be alone with these? Ibn Abbas replied, "Rather, I will stand with you." And he was in good health that day, before he became blind. Then they began to talk, but we did not know what they were saying. Later, he came, brushing off his garment, and said: "Dissatisfaction and disgust! They spoke ill of a man who had ten (son-in-laws)." They cast aspersions on a man whom the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said: "I will surely send a man whom Allah will never humiliate, who loves Allah and His Messenger." Then, those who were eager for this stood in anticipation. He asked, "Where is Ali?" They said, "He is in the tent, grinding." He said, "Was any of you able to grind?" Then he came, his eyes swollen, hardly able to see. The Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) then breathed into his eyes and shook the flag three times, handing it to him, and he came back with Safiyya, the daughter of Huyy....

10738 - Mus'ab ibn al-Muqdam and Hajjin ibn al-Muthanna narrated to us, saying: Israel narrated to us, Abdullah ibn Ismah al-‘Ajli narrated to us, saying: I heard Abu Sa'id al-Khudri say: that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) took the banner, shook it, and then said: "Who will take it with its due right?" Then so-and-so came and said: "I will." He said: "Move aside." Then a man came and said: "I will take it," and the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said: "By the One who honored the face of Muhammad, I will surely give it to a man who does not flee." "Here, take it, Ali," and he went on until Allah opened Khaybar and Fadak for him. He came back with their produce and dried meats, and Mus'ab said: with their produce and dried meats.

22314 - Qutaybah ibn Sa'id narrated to us, saying: Ya'qub ibn Abd al-Rahman narrated to us, from Abu Hazim, who said: Sahl ibn Sa'd informed me that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said on the day of Khaybar: "I will surely give this banner tomorrow to a man whom Allah will open (victory) through his hands, who loves Allah and His Messenger, and whom Allah and His Messenger love." So the people spent the night discussing among themselves who would be given it. When the morning came, the people went out to the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny), each hoping to be given it. He said, "Where is Ali ibn Abi Talib?" They replied, "He is, O Messenger of Allah, complaining of his eyes." He said, "Send for him." So he was brought, and the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) spat in his eyes and prayed for him, and he was healed as if he had never experienced any pain. Then he gave him the banner. Ali said, "O Messenger of Allah, shall I fight them until they are like us?" He replied, "Proceed at your own pace until you settle in their courtyard, then invite them to Islam and inform them of what is incumbent upon them in terms of God's rights." By Allah, guiding one person through you is better for you than having the red she-camels."

Volume: (5) - Page Number: (358/359)
22522 - Muhammad ibn Ja'far and Ruh al-Ma'na both said: 'Uwf narrated to us, from Maymun Abu Abdillah, who said: Ruh al-Kurdi, from Abdullah ibn Buraydah, from his father Buraydah al-Aslami, said: When the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) camped at the fortress of the people of Khaybar, he gave the flag to Umar ibn al-Khattab, and those Muslims who were with him prepared to march and met the people of Khaybar. The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said: "Tomorrow I will give the flag to a man who loves Allah and His Messenger, and whom Allah and His Messenger love." When the next day came, he called Ali while he had sore eyes, and he spat in his eyes and gave him the flag. The people rose with him and encountered the people of Khaybar. And there was Marhab reciting verses in battle between them, saying:
"Surely, Khaybar, you know that I am Marhab,
A warrior in armor, a proven champion.
I thrust sometimes and at times I strike,
When the lions approach, I am fierce and ready."
He said that he and Ali exchanged two blows, and he struck him on the head until the sword was stuck in it, gripped by his teeth, and the people of the army heard the sound of his strike. He said that the last of the people did not gather with Ali until he had achieved victory for himself and them.

1034 - Abdullah said: My father narrated to us, Quthna narrated to us, from Ruh and Muhammad ibn Ja'far, who said: Auf narrated to us from Maymun, Abu Abd Allah, who said: Ruh al-Kurdi narrated from Abdullah ibn Buraydah from his father, Buraydah al-Aslami, that when the Prophet of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) arrived at the vicinity of the people of Khaybar, he said: "Tomorrow I will give the banner to a man who loves Allah and His Messenger, and Allah and His Messenger love him." When the next day came, he called Ali, who had sore eyes, and he (the Prophet) spat in his eyes and gave him the standard. The people set out with him, and they met the people of Khaybar. Suddenly, Marhab was in front of them, reciting verses, and he was saying:
"Khobar knows that I am Marhab,
A champion experienced in battle,
When the lions advance, fierce and ablaze,
I strike at times and thrust at others."
He and Ali exchanged two strikes, and Ali struck him on the head until Marhab bit down on the sword with his teeth. The people of the army heard the sound of that strike. Abdullah ibn Ja'far said: The last of the people did not gather until the first of them was given victory. Ali was with them, and victory was granted to him and them.

Among the virtues of Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) from the narration of Abu Bakr ibn Malik from his teachers, excluding Abdullah
Volume: (2) - Page Number: (649)
1105 - Abdullah ibn Muhammad narrated to us, saying: Yahya al-Hamani narrated to us, from Sharik, from Mansur - and if it were anyone other than Mansur narrating to me, I would not have accepted it from him. I did ask him, but he refused to narrate to me. However, when familiarity developed between us, it was he who called me to it, and not something I asked him about; rather, he initiated it with me - he said: Rubai ibn Hirash narrated to me, from Ali ibn Abi Talib, in al-Ruhbah, who said: Quraysh gathered together with the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny), and among them was Suhayl ibn Amr. They said, "O Muhammad, some people have joined you. Send them back to us." He became angry, and it was evident that anger appeared on his face. Then he said, "You, O clan of Quraysh, must put an end to this, or Allah will surely send you a man from among you, whose heart He has tested for faith, who will strike the necks of you on account of your religion." They said, "O Messenger of Allah, Abu Bakr?" He said, "No." They asked, "Then Umar?" He replied, "No, but the one mending sandals in the chamber." Then Ali (peace be upon him) said: "Indeed, I heard the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) say, 'Do not lie about me, for whoever lies about me intentionally, let him prepare to enter the Fire.'"
