8093 - Qutaybah ibn Sa'id narrated to us, who said: Ya'qub
narrated from Abu Hazim, who said: Sahl ibn Sa'd narrated to us that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said on the day of Khaybar: "Tomorrow I will give this standard to a man in whose hands Allah will open (victory), one who loves Allah and His Messenger, and whom Allah and His Messenger love." When the people awoke, they went out to the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) the next day, all hoping to be given it. He said: "Where is Ali ibn Abi Talib?" They said: "O Messenger of Allah, he is complaining of his eyes." He said: "Send for him." So he was brought, and the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) spat in his eyes and prayed for him, and he was healed as if nothing had ever troubled him. Then he gave him the standard. Ali said: "O Messenger of Allah, shall I fight them until they are like us?" The Prophet replied: "Proceed at your own pace until you settle in their territory, then invite them to Islam. By Allah, if Allah guides one person through you, it is better for you than possessing red camels."
