2661 - Abu Ja'far Muhammad ibn Ali al-Shaybani narrated to us, saying: Ibn Abi Ghurzah narrated to us, saying: Muhammad ibn Said al-Isbahani narrated to us, from Sharik, from Mansur, from Rabii ibn Harash, from Ali (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: When the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) opened Mecca, some people from Quraysh came to him and said: "O Muhammad, we are your allies and your people, and it is indeed the case that some of our slaves, who have no desire for Islam, have come to you. They have merely fled from servitude, so send them back to us." He consulted Abu Bakr regarding their matter, and he said: "They are speaking the truth, O Messenger of Allah." He then said to Umar: "What do you think?" Umar replied with something similar to Abu Bakr's words. Then the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said: "O people of Quraysh, Allah will surely send against you a man from among you whose heart He has tested for faith, and he will strike your necks for the religion." Abu Bakr said: "I am he, O Messenger of Allah." He replied: "No." Umar said: "I am he, O Messenger of Allah." He replied: "No, but he is the one mending sandals in the mosque." He had previously thrown his sandal to Ali, who was repairing it. Then he said: "Indeed, I heard him say: 'Do not lie about me, for whoever lies about me will enter the Fire.'" This is a narration that is authentic according to the criteria of Muslim, although he and al-Bukhari did not include it in their compilations.

4632 - Abu al-Abbas Muhammad ibn Ya'qub narrated to us, saying: Muhammad ibn Sinan al-Qazzaz narrated to us, saying: Ubaydullah ibn Abdulmajid al-Hanafi narrated to us, and Ahmad ibn Ja'far al-Qit'i informed me, saying: Abdullah ibn Ahmad ibn Hanbal narrated to me, from my father, saying: Abu Bakr al-Hanafi narrated to us, from Bakir ibn Musmar, who said: I heard Amiru ibn Sa'd say: Muawiya said to Sa'd ibn Abi Waqqas (RA): What prevents you from reviling the son of Abi Talib? He replied: I will not revile him because you mentioned three things that Rasulullah (SAW) said to him. To have one of them be mine is more beloved to me than red camels. Muawiya said to him: What are they, O Abu Ishaq? He replied: I will not revile him because you mentioned when revelation descended upon him, and he took Ali, his two sons, and Fatima, and brought them under his cloak, then said: My Lord, these are my Ahl al-Bayt. And I will not revile him because you mentioned when he left him in the expedition of Tabuk, which Rasulullah (SAW) undertook. Ali said to him: You have left me with the children and the women. He replied: Will you not be pleased to be in relation to me as Harun was to Musa, except that there is no prophethood after me? And I will not revile him because you mentioned on the day of Khaybar when Rasulullah (SAW) said: I will give this banner to a man who loves Allah and His Messenger, and Allah will open through his hands. We were all eager for Rasulullah (SAW) to hand it to us, and he said: Where is Ali? They said: He has sore eyes. He said: Call him. So they called him, and he spat in his face, then gave him the banner, and Allah opened through him. Then, by Allah, Muawiya did not mention him with a word until he left the city. This is a sound hadith on the criteria of the two shaykhs, and they did not narrate it in this wording, although both of them agreed to narrate the hadith of mutual brotherhood and the hadith of the banner.

They have no desire in the religion except for fear of our livestock and crops." The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said: "By Allah, O assembly of Quraysh, you must establish prayer and give zakat, or I will send against you a man who will strike your necks for the religion." Then he said, "I or the one who is mending sandals." Ali said: "And I am the one mending the sandals of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny)." Then Ali said: I heard the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) say, "Whoever lies about me will enter the Fire."
