2444 - Abu Zur'ah al-Dimashqi narrated to us, saying: Adam ibn Abi Iyas al-Asqilani narrated to us, saying: Yazid ibn Zu'riq al-Ramli narrated to us from Ata al-Khurasani from Abdullah ibn Buraydah from his father, who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said on the Day of Khaybar: "I will surely give the banner today to a man who loves Allah and His Messenger, and Allah will open (the fort) through his hand." On that day, there was no emigrant (Muhajir) or helper (Ansari) with a prior deed (in Islam) alongside the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) or a prior arrival (in faith) except that they would present themselves to him, and Ali was that day suffering from a sore in his eye. Then the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) looked at the people after the prayer and did not see him, so he asked about him, and he was brought to him, being led. Then he called for the banner and entrusted it to him, and he prayed for him. Ali complained of pain in his eyes, and the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) spat (a gentle breath) into them, and Ali would later narrate that he did not feel any heat or cold in his eyes after the spittings of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny). Ali then went on and encountered Marhab, killed him, and opened the fortress.
