114 - Qutaybah ibn Sa'id narrated to us, saying: Ya'qub ibn Abd al-Rahman narrated to us from Abu Hazim,
who said: Sahl ibn Sa'd informed me that the Messenger of Allah (pbuh) said on the day of Khaybar: "I will give this banner to a man whom Allah will open (victory) through his hands; he loves Allah and His Messenger, and Allah and His Messenger love him." When the people woke up, they went out to the Messenger of Allah (pbuh), all hoping to be given it. He then said, "Where is Ali ibn Abi Talib?" It was said, "He is, O Messenger of Allah, complaining of his eyes." He said, "Send for him." So he was brought, and the Messenger of Allah (pbuh) spat in his eyes and prayed for him, and he was healed as if he had never had any pain. Then he gave him the banner, and Ali said, "O Messenger of Allah, should it be that we fight them or that they are like us?" The Prophet (pbuh) replied, "Proceed at your own pace until you settle at their courtyard with what you have been given. Call them to Islam and inform them of what is incumbent upon them in terms of God's rights." By Allah, he continued, "for Allah to guide one person is better for you than if you were to have the red camels."
