Ahmad ibn Muhammad narrated to us, saying: Ahmad ibn al-Fadl narrated to us, saying: Muhammad ibn Jarir narrated to us, saying: Ahmad ibn Abdullah al-Daqqaq narrated to us, saying: Mufazzal ibn Salih narrated to us, from Samak ibn Harb, from Ikrimah from Ibn Abbas, who said: "Ali had four traits that no one else shares: he was the first Arab and non-Arab to pray with the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy descendants), he was the one whose banner was with him in every battle, he was the one who remained patient with him on the day others turned away from him," and he was the one who washed him and placed him in his grave.

- .... And Sa'd ibn Abi Waqqas, Sahl ibn Sa'd, Abu Huraira, Buraydah al-Aslami, Abu Sa'id al-Khudri, Abdullah ibn Umar, Imran ibn al-Husayn, and Salamah ibn al-Akwa' all narrated similarly from the Prophet (pbuh) that he said on the day of Khaybar: "Tomorrow, I will give the flag to a man who loves God and His Messenger, and whom God and His Messenger love. He is not a coward; God will grant victory through him." Then he called for Ali, who had sore eyes, and he (the Prophet) spat in his eyes and gave him the flag, and God granted victory through him. All of these are established narrations.
