354 - Ubaydullah narrated to us, saying: Fudayl ibn Sulayman al-Namiri narrated to us, saying: Abu Hazim narrated to us, who said: Sahl ibn Sa'd narrated to us, who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said, "I will certainly give the banner tomorrow to a man through whom Allah will grant victory." So the next day, the people went to the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny), all hoping that he would give them the banner. He asked, "Where is Ali ibn Abi Talib?" They said, "He is complaining of his eye, O Messenger of Allah." He said, "Call him," and he was brought to him. The Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) then squirted saliva into his eye and prayed for him, and he was healed. Then he gave him the banner and said, "Call Ali." He came, and the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said, "O Ali, do not look back until you have settled with the people and called them." Ali replied, "O Messenger of Allah, shall we fight them until they say, 'There is no god but Allah'?" The Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said, "Take your time. When you go to them, invite them to Allah, for by Allah, it is better for you that a man be guided through you than if you had the red camels."

7527 - Sweyd ibn Sa'id narrated to us, saying: Abdul Aziz ibn Abi Hazm narrated to us, from his father from Sahel ibn Sa'd, who said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) say on the day of Khaybar: "Tomorrow, I will give the flag to a man through whom Allah will open (the victory)!" And the people spent the night wondering who would be given it. When morning came, the people went out to the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny), all hoping to be given it. The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said: "Where is Ali ibn Abi Talib?" They said: "O Messenger of Allah, he is complaining of his eyes." So he commanded that he be brought. He then spat in his eyes and prayed for him, and he was healed on the spot as if he had never had any problem. Then he handed the flag to him and Ali said: "O Messenger of Allah, on what basis shall we fight them?" The Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) replied: "Take your time. Proceed until you settle in their courtyard, then invite them to Allah, the Almighty, and to His Messenger, until they are like us. And inform them of what is obligatory upon them in terms of rights. By Allah, guiding a single person through your guidance is better for you than red camels."

7537 - And from Sahel ibn Sa'd that he heard the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) say: "Tomorrow I will give the banner to a man through whom Allah will open (the victory)." So he ordered him to be called. He (the Prophet) then spat into his eyes and prayed for him, and he was healed on the spot as if he had never had anything wrong with him. And he was given the banner. He said: "O Messenger of Allah, shall we fight them until they are like us?" The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said: "Slow down. When you have settled in their territory, invite them to Islam and inform them of their obligations in it regarding the truth. By Allah, if Allah guides through you a single man, it is better for you than red camels."
