1171 - Abdullah said: My father narrated to us, narrating from Abdullah ibn Muhammad ibn Abi Shaybah, and I heard it myself from Abdullah ibn Muhammad, who said: Jarir ibn Abd al-Hamid narrated to us, from Mughirah, from Umm Musa, from Umm Salamah, who said: "By the One in whose name I swear, Ali was indeed the closest of people in time to the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny)." She said: "We visited the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) repeatedly, the morning after morning, and he would say, 'Ali has come' multiple times." Fatimah (peace be upon her) said, "He sent him on an errand." She said: "He came back," and she thought he had a need to discuss with him, so we left the house and sat by the door, and I was among the closest to the door.
Ali then leaned over him, and he was speaking to him quietly and in intimate conversation, and then the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) passed away from that day, so he was the closest of people to him in time.
